DIY Centerpieces: How much did you spend?

Babebet, on January 10, 2014 at 9:11 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

I'm making my own centerpieces, (kind of regretting that...) and am wondering how much you averaged on your centerpieces. What did they look like? And non-DIYers how much did you spend and what did you have?

I'm making cakeplates with 12" pizza pans, spray painting them pink and blue, glueing on a 4" glass candle stick, then putting framed pictures of me and FH on top with little tchotchkes pertaining to the pictures. And table runners pink and blue, opposite what color the cake plate is.

I found out I'm terrible at spray paintining. I don't have the patience!

We bought four birdcages and seven candle holder things at Ross for a total of $45.

The flowers will cost between $90-$150.

I hate spray painting - we painted everything to match. I delegated that to FH! I did DIY my card box for the reception. Thinking about doing the cake stand as well.

Ross! I always forget about that store, I'll have to check there for frames and such. Dollar Tree is my BFF right now. Everything's a dollar!

I didn't realize flower centerpieces were so cheap... Oh well. I've already started making and buying stuff.

I would ask FH to, but I don't think he would be that on top of it. But I should, I've already messed up two things, thankfully it was on the bottom, so it's not as noticable. Oopsy... Smiley smile

Ross and Marshalls always have all that random stuff that can be changed/altered for less! The flowers were DIY - forgot to mention that! haha --- I bought them at Central Market and Market St and they lasted for days!

    I love the Dollar Tree!

Were you confident in your flower arranging skills? That's why I wanted to DIY for the centerpeice. When I talked to my florist I was like "I have no clue about flowers except for they look pretty." I knew what I basically wanted, but arranging is foreign territory.

Marshals has more than just clothes? I am a new fan of Big Lots. I went to my first one a few months ago. Also Tuesday Morning is an awesome store.

We're going to be doing a submerged rose in a cylinder vase, with a floating candle. I managed to get the 9" vases through Dollar Tree, so $1 there each, I'm going to be using artificial roses so I can glue those puppies down, so about $2-3/each, and will be getting clear glass 'gems' from Dollar Tree, 1 bag will work for about 2 centerpieces, so another $.50...oh, and the candles will be about $1/each, so total, $5.50 per centerpiece? Total per table, it's going to cost us about $10, because we've got long rectangular tables, and I'm putting LED candles on each end that have a hummingbird motif on them, and then scattering votives around them.

My venue provides most of my centerpiece, but I wanted to add a touch of coral because they didn't have that color, so I am making tissue paper poms. It fits with my style because they're simple.

I bought vases for $8-$10 each and books for under 10 cents. The vases will have flowers in them that I'm paying someone to do, but I'm DIYing the rest.

I am doing 3 cylinder 9" vases ($1/vase) on a round mirror ($3.50) with silk orchids ($1.99 on sale and I can use 1 for every 2 vases) with floating candles ($3.50 each) and clear marbles ($1/bag). So it will work out to approx. $22/table. I am hoping that I can sell the vases, marbles and mirrors after the wedding to make some of the money back. I did my mock center piece a few weeks ago, but forgot to take a picture.

@Babebet It went pretty well! I'm just not sure I'll actually have the time or patience for the event, though. I wanted to do a trial run. I'm very visual. haha

22 bucks per table for 7 tables and then the other half were just small arrangement of flowers included in my price per person. Bought the tree like thing put tea lights in it and surrounded it with votives and it was beautiful!

I am DIYing our centerpieces, and doing some test runs this weekend. I have quart size mason jars that we will use for flower vases (going to attempt tinting one of those jars blue), with burlap ribbon and lace bows tied around, filled with hydrangeas and babys breath. Table numbers either a spray painted frame, or a dowel with a clothes pin at the top holding #, and set in a skinny glass vase. And a flameless votive candle. All on top of a wood slice. Not sure of the price yet, but I'm guessing around $15 a table including flowers!

These are my center pieces.. half way done. There will be three candles in the votives and LED submersible lights in the cylinder vases. There also will be another frame that has a list of fun photos to look for and the hashtag for instagram. Also there will be blue and purple diamond confetti on them. Total each center piece cost less than $15 and we have 40 tables so not too bad.
