DIY Centerpieces - worth it?

KT, on July 16, 2017 at 10:06 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

For anyone who has done DIY centerpieces - did it end up coming out as a major savings ? Was it more work then you thought it would be ? Also who set everything up the day of the wedding and broke it down?

I am just wondering because my mom and FMIL are all about making our centerpieces...which is very sweet of them. But they both have tried a few different variations of Pinterest ideas and they haven't exactly come out like the picture.

Honestly I have a vision of what I want for a centerpiece, it's really simple and I sent it to my florist and got a quote. It would be $945 for 15 centerpieces (keep in mind I am also in an expensive area). I didn't think it was that was bad, and I literally don't have to do anything. She will bring everything, setup, breakdown and I will just enjoy as will my parents! My mom & FMIL think the quote is crazy and want to diy everything but I don't think anything will look as good as having the florist do it.

Anyone have some insight on this?

My centerpieces were simple and non floral. They weren't really time consuming, but my MOH (my daughter), DH and I set up and tore down only because i didn't want to mess with it on Sunday. We rented all our centerpieces and it was less expensive to do. I would say since you want floral, pay your florist. You will be glad that you did in the long run. Good luck.

Anything to save yourself headaches down the line. Only thing is, are they helping pay for your wedding? If so, they do have a little say in how the money is spent. I'm debating DIY-ing or just using the centerpieces that come with the venue. Doing your own centerpieces take so much time and you have to start assembling them a couple weeks before the wedding. And then there's the risk of them not looking good.

That's much cheaper than the estimate from my florist. It was 1600 for about 20 centerpieces! I decided to change my vision and will be DIYing it with a much simpler plan

We are planning DIY our centerpieces. In our case simple to do. 18 doz Costco roses 16.99 per 2 dozen, vases we acquired at various Goodwills over the last few months, floating candles and holders found on Craigslist from a bride' leftovers, clear glass pebbles from Dollar Tree. Bringing flowers and vases to venue the day before when we go for rehearsal. They assemble. Family gets to take centerpieces home.

We are doing diy centerpieces. You have sometime so you can always wait for sales. Mine are 3 mason jars wrapped in twine, a hemp number, and a tapper. Then three sunflowers with baby breaths. Total costing 250.

We did our own, including the eucalyptus for 9 tables it only cost us about $275 and I think they look really great - the venue even offered to buy the vases from me.

That said, if your mom and FMIL aren't craft and can't pull off a DIY craft, don't have them do it. In that case I'd rather pay the $1000 to have them done perfectly by a professional, if it's in your budget.
