DIY ceremony music

Chesty LaRue, on April 5, 2011 at 5:57 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

My Dj is only going to be at the reception. So for my ceremony I am going to use an iPod. I have an app that will let me set up a playlist but I'm still really nervous. How can I set it up to have the music correspond with the events without having someone man the iPod?

I would have someone man the iPod, but that's just me. Does your ceremony venue have someone that could do that for you?

I would have someone on the iPod...anyone really. Because you never know when the song needs to be fade out or the iPod needs to be stopped. See if a friend can do it. That is what we are doing. We are making a CD to be played and having someone at the church run the CD....

You really need someone to man the iPod... even if you timed your ceremony to the minute, and pre-programmed it, there's a good chance the officiant will speak too fast, or too slow, someone will sneeze at the wrong place, someone will trip, or someone will stand out of place, and the timing of the whole thing will be off.

Also, (assuming you're having an outdoor ceremony) you're going to need a PA (sound system) or a very good boom box. Most iPod docking stations are fine for a small, indoor room, but for an outdoor ceremony, you're going to need something bigger. Sound dissipates tremendously outdoors, as it doesn't have walls to bounce from.

How many people are coming to your ceremony? If you're having more than 40 or so, you might want to ask your DJ to provide sound for the ceremony as well. It would be a worthwhile investment. Your guests would love to hear you exchange your vows and they would love to hear what your officiant has to say. That's what creates true memories!

We asked one of our guests to push the buttons at the appropriate times. It was a lot easier than trying to set up a playlist so everything would be played at the correct time.
