DIY Coffee Sleeves?! =)

Tiiffaannyyy, on September 17, 2013 at 2:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

Hello everyone! I have come up with another possible DIY project to "pretty up" my plain cups.

First, does anyone know if it's better (safer) to serve drinks (both hot & cold) in paper or plastic cups? My parents are so ANTI plastic because of "the chemicals" so I am considering paper but how does that work with hot coffee?!

Second, I want to make my own coffee sleeves. Has anyone done this? If so, can you tell me any helpful hints and what type of paper to use? I have some templates I found online but don't want the paper to be regular paper! I know these will just be tossed so I don’t want anything too extravagant but I don't want it to look downright cheap!

Thank you ladies!

The coffee cups that you get from dunkin donuts, starbucks, etc. are paper. Not sure I've ever seen plastic cups for hot drinks, just lids...

It would be unsafe to serve the coffee in plastic cups. Paper cups have a wax lining that prevents liquids from seeping through, but if it is not described as being "insulated", you should provide coffee sleeves.

I probably wouldn't think of coffee sleeves as a place to DIY, though-- I'd be worried about safety. On top of that, it will probably cost you more to make them yourself than to buy them. I think you would need to use at least corrugated paper (which itself can be expensive, plus add the cost for decoration).

Do you drink coffee? If so, you and a few friends could save up your sleeves over the next year, and then maybe add some decoration to them or paint them. That way they are safe and cute.

I do not drink coffee (or hot tea) Smiley smile That is why I wasn't sure what it was served in.

Sleeves aren't that expensive, but I just thought it would be a fun DIY if I could make sure I used the right paper!

Probably you can find paper/waxed cups at a restaurant supply company, maybe you can find them white and use some not toxic ink and a stamp or stencil to personalize them.

    Hi Tiffany!

I am buying paper cups, lids and sleeves online.I found a website that sells them pretty cheaply and they have eco-friendly options such as recycled paper, etc.

Its called webstauratnstore.com. Anyway, I'm not really DIYing the sleeves, but personalizing them with stickers from VP. Have you considered this? You could personalize them in all sorts of ways.

Mrs. Marlow, that's amazing! Thank you! What is VP? Idk how many cups I'd need for approx 100 guests but I was thinking of two colors and those boxes come in packs of 240! I don't think is need 480 cups?! I guess I could just get one color! That price is fantastic! Thank you!
