DIY Cricut Inivations- What kind of paper?

Alexandra, on March 30, 2017 at 7:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 21

Hello!

I just order a cricut explore air to do my save the dates, invitations, and place cards. I was a little confused but what type, size and brand of paper to buy. Anyone who has made their own invitations, what paper did you get and how big does it need to be?

I fell in love with the gate style jackets that can be made for the invitations.

If you have pictures I would love to see those too! Thanks!

I am at work right now so I cant post my pictures but I have been DIYing mine on my cricut EA as well. I get the 12x12 individual cardstock from Michael's (runs about 69c/piece). Make sure you set it to light cardstock for the cut.

That would be amazing! I would love to see what you have made. I think this is going to give me the best looking invitation and keep me within budget.

I bought the 79 cent cardstock for my gatefold intricate invitations, but the inside pieces, save the dates, place cards/ect are being cut/printed on these! They are only $2.00 each for 50 pieces. My save the dates are now done for less than $25.00 including the cricut vinyl i put on them.

These are ours. They will have a yellow piece inside that will have the information on it.

@ Havana, if you are borrowing, be really careful. I have to buy new supplies after this (the mats and blades) because of the amount of invitations I am making. At 150 guests, it cuts into the mats. Just make sure you are replacing items, as they do eventually become unworkable.

Side note, I have spent about 5 hours on my invitations at this point and have about 40 done so be patient. I highly recommend finding a new show on Netflix and binge watching while you do it. It takes a while to get the extra little pieces off, especially for a design as detailed as mine.

@Sarah, which mats are you using? I read that they can be too sticky.

    Thanks!

I had/have the same issue as Sarah, I just bought 3 new green mats for my invites/general use (On amazon $5 for 2). I figure if I have 3 green mats, each invite will take me approx. 7 minutes to cut I can have one cutting while taking the cut invite off to expedite. I haven't gotten started yet but I've been playing around with the design a little.

I use green mats as well. The invitations do curl a bit so I put them in a big book to flatten them out. I use 3 mats and have a rotation. Usually while one cuts, I can get the last one clean. Definitely get the kit that has all the tools, I think the tweezers, scraper, pokey hook thing, and scissors. The scraper will become your best friend!

FYI, the blue mats are recommended for cardstock. With an intricate design, a brand new green mat will probably be too sticky and hard to remove the cardstock from.

Also, to prevent the invite from curling, flip the mat over and pull the mat off the paper instead of pulling the paper off the mat.

I am also trying todo my wedding invitations with my Cricut. What blade do you use? I have the fine point blade and was using light card stock but for some reason it isn't cutting all the way through the paper. So unfortunately they aren't turning out.
