diy Cricut Invitations

Mikala, on May 8, 2019 at 4:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9
Just wondering if any of you have used a Cricut to make your own invitations? I am looking into getting a Cricute Explore Air 2, but I'm not sure how the software works. I've watched videos and read reviews, some people love it and some hate it.

I would love to be able to design my own invitations and possibly cut out "doily invitations" like the one in the picture. Let me know what you think about Cricut's and if it's worth the money!

I love my Cricut and considered making my own invitations when we planned to have a much smaller guest list, but between supplies and the crazy amount of time it would take, I’m not up for it. It would take probably 20 minutes per doily unless you buy that part premade. Overall the Cricut is well worth it if there’s other things you’d like to use it for, but not just for invites.

It’s a learning process. Basic things like vinyl decals aren’t difficult, but it would take months of practice for something this intricut.

I love my Cricut but I would not have the patience to weed 150 doilies for invites. I feel like cardstock sticks to my mat too much and always rips so I prefer working with vinyl. I got mine shortly after we got engaged and have used it to personalize a lot of items.

You also have to remember that depending on the detail, you may not get clean cuts. My fiancé has a Silhouette and he upgraded to a way better machine (like a legit cutter) for his business and it still does not cut cardstock material perfectly. You will see some fraying here and there so he would need an even better machine. Plus, your blades will get dull fast and you would have to replace them several times too.

I got mine in January and absolutely love it. We have 100 invites to send (200 guests) so actually doing all those would have taken forever. I did use it to address all of my envelopes and they turned out great. I have also used it to personalize tumblers, hangers, and I did a shirt which I think came out pretty awesome too! There is definitely a learning curve with the software and google was my best friend. So far, I haven't come across anything I wasn't able to figure out. If you can find some kind of template to upload for that cutout pattern it shouldn't be too hard but the machine does take a while to cut/write. I think to address the 100 envelopes (writing, not cutting but its the same motion and about the same time scale)

it took about 12 or so hours over 3 or so nights just mindlessly feeding the machine while watching TV.

I would not try to make such a complicated invite on your machine! The Cricut it well worth the money, plus you'll be able to make so much more stuff for holidays, birthdays, it is a solid investment! Michaels is having a sale on them this week, and you get a coupon booklet with it with TONS of good deals #iworkatmichaels!
