DIY Cupcake Stands

Private User, on April 9, 2015 at 4:15 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

I have decided to do cupcakes in the center of my tables since flowers are expensive! I would like to make my own but I am struggling with different designs I have found on pinterest and other sites...does anyone have any suggestions or pictures they are willing to share!

P.S. I do have cake stands on reserve with my decor place just in case. I am just trying to save a little money but maybe it is not worth the hassle.

I haven't finished making mine yet. I'm making 2 like these: Large plastic plate, medium plastic plate, and 2 candlestick holders. Hot gluing everything together, and then I will spray paint everything gold (satin finish spray paint). Here's the pic I took of them just stacked up. It's tough to tell that the plates are different sizes. I think one is 16 inches and the other is 12-13.

I should add - all supplies except for spray paint and hot glue are from the Dollar Tree, so essentially it's a $4 cupcake stand (I already had the hot glue and paint).

I have seen some that you glue plates and candlesticks together, I'm not sure how it holds up though. I would like to know as well, I'm putting cakes in a jar on the table

@KTizzle what type of paint are you using, I have heard Krylon works really well but is not food safe.

How many cupcakes are you planning on putting on each stand? My tables hold 10 people so I am doing regular size cupcakes, they are cheaper than mini and so I need at least 10 on each stand.

I made cake stands and bought one to use. I did the glass candle sticks (Dollar Tree) and plates from Home Goods. I also grabbed a three-tier one from Home Goods for about $10 on clearance. Mine are all white or ivory, and so far I love the way they look together. BTW, I am only using one candle stick in between each plate.

With @kKTizzle's idea, you could also use a charger on the bottom for more cupcakes.

@KTizzle, I thought it was depression glass at first! Lighting makes it look pink and definitely doesn't look plastic. Pretty!

    Does it hold up good?

We're having cupcake stands as our centerpieces as well. Dollar Tree glass candle sticks spray painted and using old vinyl records as the "plate", attached with hot glue gun. Here's a picture (minus any cupcakes).
