Wasted $50 on supplies to make these when I could have easily skipped out on doing this. Although, it was relaxing so I wouldn't necessarily call it a fail.

I love your idea of spending time with your mom doing this. I'm in my mid 20s and have lost both of my parents. I wish more than anything I could be doing the same with my mom. I hope it works out for u but if it doesn't atleast you have the memories with her Smiley smile

Pretty much anything I DIY is a disaster. Saving my money and heartache and heading over to Etsy. I wish WW had a place for some of the very talented people to sell their skills! Whomever did their seating chart on the mirror a few weeks ago, I really want to pay her to do mine! Holy cow! You guys are all so talented Smiley smile

@A&L yeah it is neon chalk against black paper. I bought it all and did the DIY... and it was then that I decided no more DIY. People throw that crap away as soon as they get it. Oh and yes it is Rumchata at the end... it's so good mixed with Patron XO.

My STDs were a disaster. I started our really ambitious. I wanted a cute gift tag STD with a calendar stamp. I didn't realize our incredibly difficult it is to stamp things. They were so crooked, I ended up having to by more gift tags to make more because so many came out crooked. They were also extremely time consuming. I regret not ordering online. I quickly learned that I do not have to DIY everything in my wedding some things are better left with professionals. That being said, I've ordered my invitations and don't plan on doing more than addressing them tying a ribbon around them.

Not a disaster, more of a "womp, womp". I had my heart set on having two carved pumpkins, one with each of our initials, on either side of the porch in front of our venue. We planned to have a fun, romantic evening the night before the wedding and carve them together. Long story short, we fell asleep and it never happened.

Tee hee...I'd rather see them than read about them. Sorry.

For the poster who DIYd the sailboats...you are not delusional, so I can say this: The first one isn't horrible, but the second one should be upside down, in a big bowl of water, with some miniature doll house people floating around (sorry, I couldn't resist). You have other, cheap options. Google "small sailboats" and check out the images. I know craft stores and on-line places sell them. There are other ways to incorporate sailing elements without going the whole boat route.

Wildflowers? They're tough. They're gorgeous in the ground, but no so easy to hydrate when they're being used in bouquets or centerpieces. They're fragile (just look at their stems).

And, for anyone who wants to do spray painted numbers or letters with glitter -- here's a hint. Do it in a well ventilated area, and use several light coats of real spray paint -- not the glittered stuff. When you've applied your last coat and it's still tacky, gently sprinkle ultra fine glitter (in whatever color you want) onto the finished product. It will yield a much better result than that glittered spray paint can.

@Rachel (btw I love all of your advice, you are a WW Rockstar!) I had to give them a try but I am pretty sure we will just end up nixing them. Luckily, FH and I had so many laughs while making them.

Fell in love with my DIY project so initially I only bought a few stems at Michaels and when I went back to get more, all gone! So I went on the website, all sold out. Looking to improvise but I had a "oh crap" moment...

It took me forever to find the fabric for my table runners at $44 a yard. Then I could not find fabric for napkins. Once I found it they only had 3 yards so I bought it thinking I would go back and get more when in stock. Luckily that night I came across a company in CA that sold bulk napkins at half the price to rent or make them and I bought them in a heart beat.

I am not bothering with anymore DIY except mixing drinks!

When I originally started planning my wedding, I was going to do a lot of DIY stuff to save money. The issue was the wedding was planned in 8 weeks, I was working, I was a student, and I was preparing to move out of state 2 days after coming back from the honeymoon. It was chaos and I'm SO glad I paid for most things to get done for me. Honestly, it wasn't much more at all compared to buying supplies and the time I'd put into things. I did a couple small DIY projects. I bought $1 frames from IKEA and spray painted them glitter/silver. Well, the weather was too hot and they dripped, then cracked. They didn't look awful, but I'm glad I only did 2 and didn't spray the others. One of the best buys I made for my wedding was buying my invites on Zazzle. I was going to print them myself, but I got them all for under $60. Printing them myself would have been more expensive.

My mom proposed that exact same idea and I just foresaw that not going well. Also, flowers are insanely expensive or a last minute time suck if you put everything together yourself. I opted to make my own ribbon flowers and started making them about a year out from the wedding. I get to June (wedding is in September) and realize I have enough for bouquets and boutonnieres but there's no way I'm going to finish enough for all the tables' centerpieces. I'm glad I was honest with myself about this early and purchased a lot of baby's breath from a wholesaler for cheap and my cousin and mom just needed to put a bunch in each wine bottle vase- no organizing different kinds of flowers needed.

@Brynn I have already prepared for them to fail lol I'm only using them as extras now if any come in. It makes more sense to me to have other things in place and get bonus flowers if it works Smiley smile I don't want to stress about finding flowers the week of the wedding, that's for damn sure!
