Just Said Yes June 2021

diy dj

I am considering a Spotify playlist in place of a DJ. Our venue, which is relaxed and rustic, has audio equipment provided. While researching, I found that most laments were that creating the playlist was extremely time consuming. Does anyone have Spotify playlists from their wedding that went over well with the crowd? Were guests still willing to dance provided there is a dance floor? I additionally plan to have yard and tabletop games available. TIA!

I want to do the same thing! My fiancé and I aren’t big fans of dancing so we don’t want to put our money towards a band or DJ

I have attended a few with diy playlists and outside of the first dance, guests didn't dance. There was no dj to adjust the music to the crowd response.

If you plan to have no dancing then a diy playlist works great.

I used Spotify premium to make playlists for my wedding (only 20 people). I made playlists for every aspect of my wedding (prelude, parents processional, my entrance, recessional, cocktail hour, reception grand entrance, first dance, dinner playlist, cake cutting, dancing), and my day of coordinator was responsible for playing the music. I gave her my password a couple of weeks before the wedding and she used her own device. However, I had an old iPhone that I wiped and used as a backup playlist
source just in case we needed it. I won’t lie - it was time consuming - I probably spent 3 to 4 weekends (off and on) to create the playlists, but Spotify has a lot of already-created playlists you can use or pull songs from to create your own playlists. And guests were still willing to dance. I had a small wedding (20 people) and most are not dancers, but those of us who are did a little dancing (mainly line dances like the Cupid Shuffle or the Wobble). I knew my playlist choice would go over well when we began playing the cocktail hour playlist (old school R&B and funk) while taking the formal pictures, and my 5 year old nephew couldn’t sit still. He was dancing up a storm and pulling everyone to dance with him until they were called for pictures. Spotify was a lifesaver and I probably spent $40 in total ($10 a month for the subscription). If you have the time, it’s worth it.
