DIY...Dress alterations?

I asked seamstresses to send me before and after pictures of dresses similar to mine, especially the bustle. I also looked at reviews.

Don't do it yourself. Even if you have sewing skills, you're too emotionally involved. What happens if you do the hem too short in one spot, get frustrated, prick your finger, get blood on your dress and then start crying, thus getting tears on your dress? Because if I tried to even hem my own dress, that would all would have happened.

@MrsRivera: lol! I have to laugh, because when I was making costumes, I used to joke that I always had trouble until I made the obligatory blood sacrifice to the garment, then it was smooth sailing! Sure enough, it always happened!

If I pay as much for a wedding dress as I did why would I ruin it by doing my own alterations?
