diy Everything

After having to push back our wedding plans twice now we find ourselves on a sliver-thin budget. What are some DIY centerpieces and decorations that you can suggest from things we may already have at home? IE I'm making use of old salsa jars and similar size jars for candle holders with a little ribbon.

One of my friends asked friends to save wine bottles for her (instead of recycling them). She painted them, and gathered flowers from her parents’ garden. For example:

That's a cute idea. I was thinking about something similar with fairy lights, but I love the painted look too!

If you drink wine, save the bottles. My mom used to coordinate events. She soaked the labels off wine glasses and put fairy lights inside. Sometimes she would paint the bottles too!

We just bought some fairy lights yesterday. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

If you're DIY'ing go with simplicity. A single flower in a vase makes a huge statement.

Also, the Dollar Tree has a pretty solid glassware, frame, and craft section! I helped one of my friends plan her wedding, and we did the hurricane vases with the tall 8inch glass candles. It was so dreamy, and something I'm using for my own wedding! You could DIY little lanterns from picture frames, or get the cheap frames for table numbers (I'm doing this!). A bit of paint and some modge podge can go a long way!

If you do DIY, be aware of your skills and limitations. Keep it simple and easy because it easily gets more expensive and time consuming than having someone else do everything.

I saw this cool YouTube tutorial about how you can stain your own glass with food dye, glue, and your oven. You can get your glass ware at the dollar store and create glasses that match your color scheme for super cheap. Here’s the YouTube video. https://youtu.be/kct2auuotls

I ended up doing a version of the photo below, on a wood slab instead of a gold charger and without greenery. Second photo is a mockup I did a few weeks before the wedding, I unfortunately don't have good photos yet of how they turned out and we ended up using different candles anyway, but this is the basic idea. I provided silk blooms so my DOC could add 1-2 per centerpiece, and my florist added a little baby's breath to each as well, but I think they would've been nice even without that and you can get faux baby's breath or greenery of your choice pretty affordably on Etsy or at a craft store. I bought the candles and vases on Amazon and they weren't that cheap for the number of tables I had, but it sounds like you're already collecting glasses to use so you wouldn't have that expense. If you look around on Etsy or watch for sales at your local craft stores, you could definitely get enough silk blooms at an affordable price.

Wish I had thought of this - wine bottles would've been so me. :-) They turned out beautifully!

Oh, I love the dollar store. Those candles are cute too. I'm currently looking at a 24 count of flameless led candles to spread around with the wine bottles and fairy lights. My bridesmaids and I have also been making origami flowers out of old mass paperback books, (Bill and I both love to read) they're super cute.
