DIY Fabric and Brooch bouquet.

JenniferandRick, on November 10, 2014 at 3:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

I'm making my own fabric and brooch bouquet. My inspiration came from Etsy, as I'm in love with this listing, but it's almost $500. YIKES!

I'm pretty good at searching/finding what i need on the internet, but i can't seem to find a decent tutorial, and i've also found some info that has me a bit confused. One site i found states that styrofoam shouldn't be used as the center on brooch bouquets. My bouquet will have brooches as accent pieces; they won't be used for the entire bouquet. Sooo, should i use styrofoam?

I got that info here:

Has anyone found a good tutorial similar to the bouquet shown on that Etsy page, or do you have your own experience with how to create this beautiful piece? I don't HAVE to have a tutorial, but recommendations on some of the materials, like the center and handle would be helpful?

I actually made my own ribbon flowers for my bouquet and I made the kissing balls for my bridesmaids. My bouquet is not heavy, but from other bouquets I've made I would recommend a large size wire. In my opinion I do not believe you should use a Styrofoam ball. Using wires would give you more control over the placement. When I make them I attach the flowers individually to the wire and that way you can work with the flowers and brooches with more control.

I was the MOH in a wedding in Sept. I made all the bouquets with fake flowers and broaches. I also don't recommend Styrofoam, broaches can get heavy fast and foam can break. You wouldn't want that to happen at a bad time.

I used wire and wrapped it in green floral tape.

Not the best picture, but you get the idea.

Thank you for your input ladies. The one thing i would like though is a larger handle than what you two have...i will have to see what i can add to the wire to make them thicker.

@Cynthia - good point about the brooches adding up.. i haven't started but i suspect if i use ten brooches, that will add some weight to the bouquet on top of all the fabric.

    Both your bouquets are gorgeous!
