DIY Garter & Toss Garter

Ashley C (formerly P), on April 7, 2011 at 12:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

So, I was just reading the post about the Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue and it got me thinking. We are having a military wedding and I haven't gotten my garter or toss garter yet.

I want to make both with one of FH old ACU's (Army Combat Uniform).

Anyone done this before? Not really "sew" savvy so I'm not sure where or how to start on this one...

If you can't sew I would look on etsy. They can make one for you in any pattern.

I am a fellow military bride and they most likely cannot match the fabric exactly. Worse case is you would need to mail them enough fabric to make the garter.

Yeah I looked on etsy and they definitely don't match the fabric (most of their's are digi-print). I want it the be my "somthing old" so I don't want to have to purchase it offline or mail them the fabric. What if I hate it after I get it? I can't return it Smiley sad

I may just have to practice on my sewing...but I don't how to use the elastic and organza. I looked it up on ebay but didn't really get any good hits on how to DIY.

I never made them, but the cheerleaders made them in H.S. for fundraisers... I think they even sewed them by hand, if I remember correctly, they were sitting at the cafeteria table ... They are really easy to make at home.....

I've made something similar to a garter, the hardest part would be the trim. The elastic part is the easiest!
