diy Hair & Makeup Help

Stephanie, on May 11, 2020 at 11:01 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6

I would love to hear from you lovely brides that are doing your own hair and makeup!

I had to cancel my hair and makeup trial and now that we are now going to elope just us in August it seems silly to get a professional to go all the way out to the National Park we are going to for a short ceremony and photo op afterwards, and it would be pretty expensive for travel on top of the services.

The only thing I worry about is how bad at foundation color matching I am as well as a lot of acne scars I have to cover up for our pictures. I also can't do top eyeliner to save my life.

To top it all off I'm not good at hair either (unless I get lucky LOL), so I think I need to keep everything pretty simple.

Does anyone have any tips or product recommendations for this noob?

xx Steph Smiley heart

I am actually lucky and blessed to have my best friend doing my hair and a girl I know doing my makeup I'm having my hair curly because I have always dreamed when I have my wedding that it would be curly and my makeup is going to be really neutral and very clean i don't want to be a really bold so some simple can't go wrong with that hope that helps

I did my own makeup... I use Mary Kay products and my mom’s friend, who is a Mary Kay saleswoman, helped teach me how to apply it all properly. If you have a talented friend, perhaps they could help you choose the right makeup and give you some lessons on how to do it well on your own? You could also go to Sephora (assuming things are opened up by then) and someone there can help you pick makeup and learn to apply it. If not, tutorials on YouTube can help.

As far as hair goes, I had mine professionally done because I’m not very good at hair lol. But if I had to do it myself (which, for a little while when I was struggling to find a hair stylist I thought I might) I was thinking I was just going to straighten my hair (because I can do that neatly and very effectively lol) and then maybe get a flower crown or something to just add a little dimension to the look.

Get a long wearing foundation, as close to your skin tone but don’t worry if it’s not an exact match. Set with a powder and you can double up with a powder or bronzer if you need to deepen or lighten the overall skin tone.

Too faced “born this way” liquid foundation is great, set it with a powder and setting spray. I like urban decay All Nighter spray, and Air Spun powder by Coty, it’s been around for decades, but it is tried and true. Can get it at Walmart for less than $10.

I would watch a ton of YouTube videos specifically geared for wedding or bridal make up. It will focus on longevity and showing up in pictures

Thank you all so much, those are great tips!
I’m gonna try those products you recommended, Leanne, and start practicing and watching tutorials. If I have troubles I’ll try and find an expert lolol.
I was thinking of doing a flower crown as well, so I think whatever happens it should come together okay. Smiley smile
