DIY Help Needed - Martini Glass Centerpiece

Christina, on October 3, 2014 at 3:16 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I'm trying to figure out a centerpieces for my Great Gatsby wedding. I want to use a 24" oversized Martini Glass and connect 2 smaller ones to it. However the only option I'm comfortable with is using wire that is used in flowers, etc., to attach the smaller ones to the larger one, but it looks sloppy to me. I've also tried to cover the wire by wrapping the entire stem of the large martini glass with pearls, but it looked too clunky.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to attach 2 smaller martini glasses to the stem of a large martini glass? I would prefer not to use glue because I'm afraid it's not secure enough.

Attached is what i looks like to right now.

Thanks everyone!! :0)

You're right about the wire. It's not working. If you use the proper glue and let it cure as per the directions, you should be fine. Try Loctite Glass Glue. It even holds up in the dishwasher, so I think it would work for glass that only needs to stay bonded for one day while sitting on a table. Here's a link:

I really like the Martini glass vase look too, but I'm having trouble finding them at a reasonable price. Can you offer a suggestion of where I can purchase them? Did you get yours for a good deal? Thank you.

What about tying it with clear fishing line? It might not be as noticeable as the wire.

I would also wrap it at both angles of where the stems cross to make it more secure.

Use the wire and cover with small flowers or curled silver ribbons!

There are the most amazing glues on the market these days that are strong, dry clear and available at craft stores and hard wear stores. I'm so sorry I don't remember the name of the glue I think would work best. But the post at the top had a good idea. Also...a quick google search on glue saved my DIY butt more than once. I didnt have martini center pieces, but martini candles as wedding favors. I used ribbons to connect tags to the glasses, You can see my DIY on http://askerena.blogspot.com/2014/07/diy-martini-glass-candles-favors.html

I also had a martini glass runner that I made. If you are interested, you can check it here http://exoticaccessoriesboutiqueshop.blogspot.com/

If you're not comfortable with glue, JHazel's idea sounds great-- give that a shot!

Hi everyone, you guys are all so awesome! Love all your suggestions.

Jhazel - the fish wire may work in some respect. However since i'm putting two glasses on it, the top smaller glasse will slide down if it's not hooked to the top in some way.

this is what i'm trying to do : http://www.pinterest.com/pin/484066659922322609/

Marlene - For my trial centerpiece, I got the large here http://www.wholesaleflowersandsupplies.com/store/tall-glass-martini-vase.html

but plan on buying the large one from here because it's reasonably priced for a case http://store.wholesaleglassvasesint.com/servlet/Detail?no=252

However, I went to World Market Cost Plus and got the two smaller ones for $1.99 each but you can buy six for 11. 99 at http://www.worldmarket.com/product/madison-martini-glasses-set-of-6.do?&refType=&from=Search

However, I'm not sure I will be buying the small ones or renting them. If I can't find a temporary solution to connect these glasses together in a way that I am comfortable with, I will buy them and either use glue or possibly blow the glasses together. I'll start with glue and so I'l have to test which glue to use at that point!

Thank goodness I have lots of time ;0)

It looks like your photo inspiration just used thicker wire to secure them together.
