diy Honeyfund Website

Lindsey, on September 17, 2019 at 12:08 PM Posted in Registry 0 5

I understand there's contention on the ideas of Honeyfunds and I get it. That being said... I'm not against it, but the fact that there are fees associated with it definitely makes it something I don't want my guests having to deal with.

I saw someone mentioned that you'd be better off just linking to your PayPal account if people want to send money that way, but I'm wondering if guests would think it's a bit odd (of course I'd be adding an explanation and not just a random link, but still). I have experience in web development, so I'm thinking I could create a page that makes it look like a more traditional honeyfund website...

We'll be having traditional registries too (yay for Amazon and Target!), but I like to give people options!

(Sorry, I feel like this was more of a brain dump than a question!)

I personally have nothing against cash funds. Definitely don't like the whole percentage fee from using those sites, but hey that's how they make their money. If you have the capabilities to build your own site, I say go for it! If people aren't comfortable using it, they won't use it. They'll either buy a gift off the registry or give you a check or cash. No harm no foul in my opinion Smiley smile Let us know how it turns out, I'd love to see what you come up with!

Thanks! That's what I was figuring, but I always like asking for opinions. 😊

It actually looks pretty easy to allow for custom payments via PayPal for people looking at doing this. You can make links denoting exactly how much people can give: paypal.me/yourusername/amount

Hmm...that's interesting. I did a honeyfund with Disney and it didn't mention anything about fees or anything. Is that because it's only from the guest that is making the payment toward your registry that it pops up? If that's the case, I wouldn't want that to happen.

As a guest I would think that was odd. The thing is, people don’t need help figuring out how to give money. They’ve been doing it for decades without issue. If someone wants to give you money they already know they can give cash or check. PayPal feels wildly unnecessary.

If I were invited to your wedding, I would be an "older more traditional guest," and if you sent me a link to your Paypal account, I would, minimally, roll my eyes.... (And, if you actually listed "suggested amounts," I'd probably just decline the invitation.) Like a pp said, H & I have been giving cash wedding gifts for more than 35 years now and we have never had difficulty figuring out how to put money in a card. I think this is really unnecessary, and some guests might find it quite rude. (FYI for daughter's wedding, the "older more traditional guests," pretty much all brought cards containing significant checks/cash, without any need for "suggested amounts" or a Paypal link.)
