DIY Honeymoon Registry

Sunnie, on March 19, 2011 at 11:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

I have read several threads on here about doing a honeymoon registry... I really like the one that Couples has on their website, however even they are charging a fee even though the money is going directly to them! If they were smart they'd do it for free!! Anyway, has anyone just put their own together on a website (say your weddingwire website?) and just linked it to your paypal account? Also, I use paypal to pay for things a lot but never to receive money, what are their fees?

Thanks ladies, you guys rock!

My brother I believe uses Pay Pal to get money ... and it's pretty simple, it just takes a few days to get into your account ... he's asleep at the moment or I'd ask him. I'd read their FAQ section if they have one and see if you can email them the question about fees.

It looks like it will cost me 2.9% to receive money, which seems way better than the 7% most of the honeymoon registry sites charge...

Honeyfund is the way to go! Totally free, unless you link it to your paypal account. Otherwise, guests just bring you cash/check at the wedding Smiley smile

For my wedding, we did the honeymoon registry ourselves. May I suggest using Google Sites as it's free and easy to use. You can use Paypal or GoogleCheckOut widget just by selecting it. We showed the pricing of various parts/costs of our Honeymoon and just asked people to donate to it. That worked out in our favor because we ended up with a surplus that we put into savings.

We are doing one that is a bit different- but is for both HM and more traditional stuff- worth checking out if you want a pretty well rounded one! www.uponourstar.com - HTH- so far, so good!

Initially we had a hard time deciding between Honeyfund and Traveler's Joy. After setting up test registries at both, we decided on Traveler's Joy. Yes, they are more expensive. However, we don't have advertising on our honeymoon registry page, and we don't have to ask our guests to mail in a check or give cash at a wedding which is essentially what Honeyfund does if you don't allow your guest to use a credit cards. If you do accept credit cards on Honeyfund, you pay 2.9% + a per transaction fee which usually brings the total fee to about 3-3.5%. So for us, the 7% was worth it to not have advertising on our registry page, the hassle of setting up a PayPal account, and the overall design and ease of use with setting up our Traveler's Joy registry. Finally, they have a toll free # that our (older) guests could call to give a gift and if we had a question. Honeyfund doesn't . I highly recommend setting up a registry at each site, then deciding if the extra amount is or isn't worth it.

You can try amazon.com, you can register for anything on amazon, PLUS they have a "universal registry" program where you can link any website to amazon, so you can link sites for scuba diving, spas, etc. on your honeymoon

We really like www.depositagift.com -- same fee as traveler's joy but deposit a gift lets you choose who pays for it. plus we thought their interface was a lot nicer. all credit card, customer service number, really slick and seamless. definitely been one of the best decisions we've made so far.

We are doing Honeyfund and love it. We set it up with a PayPal account, which is as cheap as it gets for fees. I highly recommend them. No one even notices the ads and would rather more money go to you anyway.

I was looking for an old registry thread and found this gem from 2011. Oh how things have changed.
