DIY invitation smudging. ;(

Thecane428, on May 20, 2014 at 2:12 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I had read previous posts regarding invitations smudging and types of printers but i dont even know what type of printer i have at home. I printed my sample today that looked amazing until all of the wording smudged. I waited to touch the paper for about 10 minutes and that didnt help. What can i do? Will the same thing happen at kinkos or office depot? I have paperandmore.com white metallic linen cardstock #84.

Are you printing it on the wrong side? Try turning the paper over and printing it again. I've had card stock do that. Some of them are one sided.

It could be your type printer. I would take one to a kinkos, etc and see what happens.

This specific cardstock (in gold) was the BANE of my existence for printing.

I ended up printing on "draft" setting on my printer in order to reduce the amount of ink and that helped somewhat. It could also be the type of ink you are using.

I had metallic champagne card stock from paperandmore and I had no problem with the ink. I used a cannon MX870 printer. I did see that for your type of paper it needs 24-48 hours to dry so try that. If not then take it to Kinkos.

Not sure if this will work, but for our calligraphy we had to get a clear matte finish spray paint to spray over the envelopes so that the ink wouldn't run if it happened to get delivered in the rain or what not.

Might work for the invitations too.

Metallic paper needs to be printed on a laser printer - inkjet won't cure on that coating (most metallics have a mineral coating of mica powder). {{If you have little tubs of ink, your printer is inkjet.}} Even if the ink feels dry to the touch after a few days, the friction of being mailed in the envelope can cause the ink the smear a little. Take it to Kinkos or Alphagraphics, etc.

Thanks a lot everyone Smiley smile

How much would it cost to take to kinkos. I may have to print about 80 color ink panges. Including invites, reception and rsvp cards?

Go to the kinkos or staples website-- it should allow you to set-up the job online and get an idea of cost (though, if you want to use your own paper, don't actually submit the order online-- take it in there and set up the order in person).

Staples or Kinkos is probably the most affordable place to have them printed so the ink does not smear.
