DIY Invitations...Are you Printing, or Having Them Printed?

Mrs. C, on April 2, 2012 at 8:58 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 22

Hello!

I planned on buying the invitations kit, and printing them on my printer until someone mentioned that she printed one and took them to Kinko's to have them printed. The obvious advantage to printing them yourself is to save $$, but it sounds like it's hard to get them right on your own printer (?) So I'm curious, are you printing your own or having a "Kinko's" print them?

I designed our invitations on the computer using a Corel program. We had a local shop do the printing and cutting. It only cost us about $95 (w/tax) to print 125 invitations. Not too shabby, I think. Plus we were able to support a local business. Smiley smile I'm sure we will use them again to have the programs and Thank You cards printed when we are ready for them.

Good idea, I have the kits already, wonder what the price would be if I brought my own paper to them?

Kimberly-The kits look easy...right? The way I understand it, you use the template, and then you either print them yourself or have them printed...sounds easy. Am I missing something? Yeah, I'm thinking since you have the paper, it shouldn't be too bad.

If it's not too difficult to print them yourself, that's the obvious choice...but I'm just thinking there may be more to it than that...just seems too easy Smiley smile

LOL I think the difficulty comes in getting the paper centered, or in my case getting the printer to work right. I am going to attack that this coming weekend.....

I designed my own and am having them professionally printed (at a blue print shop of all places)… The quality is just so much nicer than I could ever imagine getting on my home printer. When you figure in the cost of toner the price to have them done evens out.

Just finished printing mine, they turned out great! I had to play with the settings a little, but they turned out really good.

You just have to have patience.

I had mine printed though Vista Print. It was super cheap with the deals you can find. Though you can't buy the kits and get them printed because it's all online. But it was actually way cheaper for me to do it that way.

for $90 (and that is including shipping) I've gotten my invites, RSVP cards, 2 sets of save the date cards because I decided I didn't like the first ones i did, 50 business card sized magnets, 2 tote bags, probably over 300 return labels, some with our address, some with "thank you for joining us" on them, also round stickers with our logo, a pen, a lawn sign, a couple tee shirts, big magnets for our gettaway car. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff....

Edit to say- we did buy 3 of the living social pay $10 get $50 to spend- but I honestly bet if you talked to Hayley she could help you figure out how to get about the same for the same price.

I would seriously consider checking them out. This link has been helpful, but I also think Hayley (she has a rainbow colored rose as her pic) has a link that is a little better then the one on this website right now. I placed multiple orders to get the best deals. Often i just payed for shipping.

We had a kit that my FMIL gave us and we had them printedat a mom and pops. it was very cheap about 400 copies of stuff for $45. its sooo much easier and less stress for you. We ran out and what I did was sign up for michaels and joan's for weekly mail. you get up to 40% off one item a week. I would go that route. Smiley smile

I was orginally going to print at home, the centering of the paper and such doesn't phase me, but then I got wishy washy and decided I really wanted purple wording =). So we wasted a bunch of money buying the pre-cut paper through cards and pockets.com because the print shop charged extra to print on pre-cut paper vs their own paper. However the print shop did an awesome job and I have really great invites now.

I designed our invitations to have pics as a watermark. The invite itself has a pic of feet of the family in sand (destinatin wedding) The menu card has a pic of twoel swans, RSVP has a bottle in the sand, and reception card has a pic of a heart drawn in the sand. Since I couldn't do a "watermark" with a "wine ring stain" on the same document, I decided to let Alphagraphics handle it. The printed all the cards and then I bought the kit to assemble them. I think they are unique because they are personalized with our pictures. The designer was a big help in picking the font and aligning it on the paper.

Printing myself, but not using a kit. 100% DIY. When you are printing into an already cut and bordered item, it makes it a bit harder. =)

Well, ive done the kits for different occasions and they came up really easy to do but it also depends on the kind of printer u have. mine is a canon so it automatically changes the size u need for it.

I would suggest having them printed by a professional. I believe you can still get them done for a cheap package price. Since you will also be providing the paper, you can also negotiate with the print shop to give you a discount. Good luck!

I had FedEx Kinkos print one copy of my invitations and the colors and quality was not good at all.

I am having my invitations printed at www.catprint.com.

The paper selection is great and the print quality is beautiful!!!!

    Prices are really great too.

My invites were printed by FedEx Kinkos on one copy, and neither the colours nor the quality were very excellent. My invites are being printed at

The print quality is stunning, and the paper choices is excellent.

    Prices are also very competitive.
