DIY invitations - gold foil

Reggie, on October 7, 2017 at 8:16 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4

I'm designing my own wedding invitations (have some design background) and plan on hand dip dyeing each then gold foiling the text. I have seen numerous tutorials on using a laminator to gold foil invites, however i keep getting a splotchy look with the gold foil!

i am using a proper laserjet printer but wonder if the dye is impacting the foil from sticking? the card stock? the laminator itself?

I had that problem when the heat setting on my machine was not high (hot) enough. Though, my paper was white.

What laminator did you end up using that worked? even on white paper it doesn't work well

I'm doing mine too and soooo feel your pain. I have a Heidi Swapp minc.

It's all in the paper. You need paper that's super smooth or even coated and made for laser printing. No texture at all. This is hard to find in anything that isn't white; but I've found that Plike brand paper works well. Not sure how the dye will affect it.
