Ok, I am super new to this whole concept so I am a little needy when it comes to advice, I apologize lol. I am wondering if it is more cost effective to make invitations oneself or just to have them ordered. We are on a tight budget but I do not want the tastefulness of our wedding to suffer because...

Overall I can say after splitting mine between Vista and DIY the DIY was much more expensive.. Here is a list of what to consider..

    DIY:

Ink, Paper(card stock etc), Postage, Envelopes. Labels..

    Vista:

    Postage, Labels

I ordered more invites and RSVP cards than we needed in a mix up of our own making but over all looking at what each cost Vista was way cheaper..

Everyone's stories make me jealous! My FH's aunt, who is a graphic designer, designed ours and we took care of paper and printing costs....go with vistaprint or any other savvy method if you can. I gave up with researching and spent $225 for printing, paper, custom pockets, and envelopes. My invites are exactly what I wanted but at the end of the day it's just paper and most people chuck them after a few weeks anyway. My advice....splurge elsewhere! !

Don't spend alot on invitations. You can get invitation print kits from Party City, Michaels and from Wilton. People only throw them in the garbage after the wedding anyway.

If you're looking for a little of both try using the website canva and then prder the prints from vistaprint or similar. Canva has heaps of templates you can use and customise yourself, and I believe they've actually added their own printing service now, so maybe that's a good option.
I think zazzle might be another site where you can customise and order invites in the same place.

But yes, as others have said, it depends on what sort of look you're after. In the end you can probably design on canva, buy some nice paper and have someone print locally, or else order from vistaprint for cheap.

    Best of luck! Congratulations!
