(Longtime lurker, just getting into actually posting.) So, I did a bad thing last night and bought a Cricut Explore die cut machine. I'm sooo excited, I want to use it for everything because it's awesome... and was also expensive, so I need to get my money's worth. I was looking up patterns, and some of the invitations that people make themselves are amazing, they look professional. Has anyone used a die cut to do your own invitations or made them some other way? Did you save money doing it? Was it worth all the time it took you? We are looking at probably 120 people being invited, so maybe 50-65 or so individual invitations, I haven't done the exact math yet. I am naturally a crafty person, especially where there are patterns involved and I don't have to write anything with my 3rd grade-looking handwriting, so I don't think the project itself would be impossible, maybe just the scope? What do you DIY'ers think?

I would say it all depends. I see you have just under a year, but do you actually HAVE the time to do it? I started out by wanting to make mine. I downloaded Adobe Illustrator (paid for a three month or something like that) and watched tutorials, then made a design based on a bunch of ones I liked online. Then I started thinking about how much else was involved, with the printing, the cutting, the piecing together, and realized there's no way I'll get it all done. I teach during the day and tutor pretty much all night, at least five days of the week. I'm on spring break now, which is my only time to do anything - I ended up buying my invitations and I decided I still wanted to add a little something so I'm putting ribbon around them and adding an envelope liner and it's still a ton of work for my busy schedule.

Basically, it's not hard to do especially if you're crafty, just take into consideration whether or not you really have the time to devote to it. I hope you do, because I LOVE seeing DIY invites! Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

    (sorry for long post)

I purchased my card pocket from card and pockets. I had 125 invites so I didn't want to do all that folding. I then made backings, the invite, and 4 inserts with a cricut. I had to buy an extra blade because it got dull and started ripping things. I don't have a picture. ?

The least expensive place is cards and pockets. I have 75 invites and it is roughly 2.25/invite with everything. We bought a self inking stamp through etsy. We are sealing the inner envelope with a wax seal (which C&P has wax seals that work with glue guns). I have a laser printer so we are printing the invites and they look fantastic. We bought samples through C&P to see the colors, which I super recommend. And they are prompt and everything looks fancy.

Thanks for all of the feedback, ladies! I loved all the pictures, those are my favorite... looking on Pinterest can only get you so far, sometimes you need to hear from real people who have been through this. I really think I'm going to pursue doing my own invites, you all gave me great resources. Thanks!
