Anyone making their own invitations? I'm seriously thinking about it. Any advice, tricks, or pros and cons? Thanks

    Here is my DIY

invitation suite. I spend $120 in supply. I got 120 invitations, RSVP, accommodation, direction cards. I also made 120 gift tags, 220 menus, and 23 story cards as my table numbers. A friend of mine graciously printed everything out for me. I am glad all the cutting is over. But I am very happy with the outcome. I will send picture of the embellishments. They wont be done until July. So let me know what you think.

Seconding the Vistaprint printing plus Cards and Pockets envelopes approach. I was obsessed with the idea of dark envelopes (inner, outer, plus RSVP). I could not find those three types of envelopes in the same dark paper anywhere but cards and pockets. I also ordered print samples from several printers and could not find a quality/value combo anywhere but Vistaprint. Definitely recommend those two!! I also ordered spare cardstock from cards and pockets to do menus and programs using my home printer.

I used a diy kit from Michael's craft store. They also have some at hobby lobby. It was so beautiful and easy and cheap and they had a lot of different options & styles. I suggest using those! I think you'd have to print them out on your own printer though, not sure. Good luck!!!

@ Irvy and John - I LOVE the colors of your invite!

@ Katie - I would totally go for it! Those are so classy and have just the right amount of sparkle!

@ Sharon - Thank you so much! I've spent WAY too much time designing and redesigning and building them. I had to ask for help to translate the logo into a vector file, since I was ignorant of what that even was, LOL, but I really love how the cutout looks in the front as our seal. I'm super proud of them. ^__^

I'm with Stefani H. we used a kit from michaels as well. it was perfect and the online set up for printing was fantastic and super easy! I don't have a picture but I absolutely love the way they came out. they came with everything you need, and mine had some rustic string to tie everything together with...I'm very happy with them, and I'm strict with our budget, so using a 50% off coupon we made all of our invites for around $20. and everyone has told us how beautiful they are!

I designed my own on some design software I have. My uncle used to own a printing company and my mom worked for him, she said it might be about the same price if not cheaper to have them printed at a printing shop than paying for the ink, plus they might be able to save you money on paper since they buy in bulk so that's worth checking into!!! Plus they have better cutting equipment, that way you for sure have perfect cuts in case your cutting board isn't the sharpest (and please don't cut them with scissors). But by all means make a design, check over it a million times and run it by a million people for suggestions and go for it!!! And if you end up liking it you can do your programs and any other things you want printed too!!!

I read a comment where someone said they thought the Walmart DIY kits looked cheap...yeah, I have to disagree. I found a kit with a design that looked nice and fun to play around with. It has metallic gold dots (something that usually you will have to pay extra for) and the design was simple and allowed me to play around with different fonts, placement, etc.

I didn't use the program the kit offered but even that was super easy! Just added personal touches and it really helped us with our budget. If you have the time and patience to do it, I say go for it!

I designed, printed and assembled mine myself & it took SO much time! I did save money but, it consumed my life for months. I did mine in Microsoft Word by changing their wedding invitation template to fit what I wanted & removed their images & added my own. Its hard work. Also, consider that you'll need a quality paper cutter, you'll have to order card stock & envelopes, and you'll need glue dots, etc.. It adds up quick. The only reason I made mine was because the ones I wanted were $1100.00 for 100 invites. I made them for about $300. By the time I was done though, I wish I'd just ordered some cheaper ones. They did turn out really well though.

I'm making some designs with Canva using some super cute watercolor Clipart from Etsy.

If it looks decent, we'll print with VistaPrint.
