DIY Kissing Balls

Honey B., on November 30, 2011 at 9:58 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

I'm so happy that I finally started my DIY Kissing Balls ...

I purchased:

24- 4" styrofoam balls from Ebay for $29.90 plus $5.57 shipping

200x white silk roses flower heads from Ebay for $46.88 (with shipping)

2 rolls of white silk ribbon for $2 from the Dollar Tree

I've discovered that I will need approximately 40 silk flower heads so I have to purchase 600x more to make 20 Kissing Balls but I'm having soooo much fun constructing them Smiley smile

I've included a pic as well of the first one I made. I think I will be making the ribbon a bit shorter on the next ones and make one equal to this length to hang on the very first pews.

That looks great! I really want to have some of these at my wedding and I'm not usually very good at DIY but this looks totally do-able!!

Katie- they are very easy to make. I basically take the ball & attach the ribbon with a pin and some hot glue. To attach the flowers I poke each flower head into the ball, take it out then hot glue the hole and put the flower head back in the hole until the entire ball is covered. You have to make sure you push the flower head in and hold for a few seconds to make sure its really glued down tight.

I know some people also add the bridal bouquet rhinestone pins into the balls to make them match their bouquets... And for your first one, it looks like you're a pro lol my first one didn't look like that. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't wedding worthy either

Olivia- Thanks! I was worried that they wouldn't turn out but I just followed some advice I saw on a previous post (not sure which one). They will be hanging on the end of pews so I decided to go with a pin that is hidden.

Krista- you're going to have a blast making them! Its pretty addicting lol I'd probably make 50 if I could/needed to.

JohnAmanda2012- I really like the idea of reusing them at the reception, however we already have our centerpieces so I can't think of another place to use them. I used silk flowers because I'm highly allergic to certain flowers and didn't want to take a change having real flowers at my wedding. Its a very cute centerpiece!

Honey B - The one you made looks awesome! I was hoping you could help me "borrow" your idea. My ceremony is going to be outside and I had wanted to do flower balls on the end of each row, but real ones are way too expense. Your's seem to be a reasonbale price per piece. Could you tell me how to make them or the website where you got the information? Thanks!

Jennifer- To complete 24 Kissing Balls it comes to $11.33 per ball which I think its very reasonable. I will be purchasing 800 more silk flower heads and asked the seller if I can get a discount.

I kind of followed these instructions but I pinned the ribbon instead of making a hole and pull the ribbon through. I also used silk flower heads instead of the flowers listed. I also suggest hot glueing the flowers to make sure that they last.

I'm using them for church decor instead of pew bows but they can also be used as part of centerpieces.

Cessily W- It took me approximately 5 minutes to make this kissing ball and I am going to make 24 of them so I don't foresee it taking me longer than 1/2 a day to make all of them.

I'm getting ready to try my hand at making a few of these myself, though since I'm making these few just for fun and to see if I like them, I'm making them with streamer paper in black, red and purple. I hope they look as good as yours!
