Hey guys and girls! Was wondering if any of you did or are doing your own DIY lighting for your reception?

If you have suggestions or pics, please share.

Thanks!

I don't have the layout yet, but I'll be renting uplights from one of these companies.

Bummer. Smiley sad Are you having a DJ? A lot of them have lighting equipment. I love disco balls but strobe lights make me dizzy and nauseous. lol

What kind of lighting are you looking for? We had DIY uplighting, paper lanterns, and various backlit menus and signs. Details are here.

Spirithalloween.com Or other halloween retailers. Spirit has some new colored plug in spotlights for 17 bucks.

I am thinking of doing my own lighting.

We haven't had our wedding yet, but I will be designing part of our lighting scheme. Our reception venue has LED uplights, but I actually have access to parnels and fernels to do 'actual' lighting since I have worked as a lighting designer for a theatre before. What types of lights were you thinking of doing? Maybe I can help?

I'm doing these types of lights over the dance floor and and tables. Sorry about the bad quality of pic, was a crappy phone camera.

Both the spheres and cylinders are DIY, but they do require hanging, some venues don't allow that.

Lighting can make the Reception room beautiful if the right equipment is used. However, if the load is too much or the rented equipment is not installed properly, it could be a hazard. Professional Lighting is more affordable than you think and certainly worth the piece of mind.

The easiest DIY uplights to rent are at rentuplights.com. They are completely wireless so just take them out of the case, turn them on and place them around the room. You aren't limited by a few colors like the other plugin rental lights. Photo shows a nice blue with about 16 of those lights.
