diy Makeup

Cassandra, on January 14, 2020 at 3:37 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7

I really want to do my own makeup for the wedding and I am very confident in my abilities, however, I am not so confident in my mom's or my FMIL's. I'm considering hiring a MUA because of this. Am I being too bridezilla to be concerned about their makeup? I want them to look and feel their best, but they both seem to think it's not necessary. I would absolutely pay for them both! But if I hire a MUA, it doesn't make sense for me to not get my makeup done as well. I have had makeup professionally done in the past and I have never liked it.

Also my mom is really frugal, so it is possible that she's saying it's not necessary because she knows that it's a significant added expense.

I definitely would not hire someone, especially if they don’t want you to. Just let them do their own! Do you not think they look fine on a regular basis?

If they don't want it done and are fine doing their own, I wouldn't hire someone especially if you aren't getting yours done.

My mom and FMIL don't want a MUA, and I wouldn't push them if they want to do their own makeup. I am doing mine as well too!

My mom never wears makeup and my FMIL try's but is no MUA. I asked them both along with my bridal party if they want hair/makeup for the day of everyone said they would want at least one or the other so I got everyone a gift card for the salon we will be using that they can put towards whatever service they want. Just an Idea if your looking for something nice / Useful for everyone.

That's a great idea and it gave me an idea of my own. We're having a family friend do hair that day, so there won't be an expense there, but if I end up forgoing the MUA, I could get them all a Sephora or Ulta gift card to use however they want. I kind of feel bad not providing anything for the day, so I could do that or maybe pay for a part of their dresses. Thank you!

Ask them first. I was concerned about my mom's hair and make-up too and offered to pay for hers but she declined. She ended up doing her own--which was no make-up. Haha Also, this is something my mom and bridesmaids told me when I was stressing over how everyone should look: remember that you are the bride and the focus is on you. Smiley laugh

I would not consider wanting everyone to look their best, as a bridezilla act. Especially if you would pay for it yourself! Personally I struggled finding a makeup artist I liked too, trials are so important! I did find a couple on weddingwire, but anyone who's style I liked was already booked! I found my MUA through word of mouth, a co-worker's daughter does photoshoots and had this person do her makeup every time, she was perfection!

If there is a cosmetology school in your area you could probably find a student about to graduate to do it for a reasonable price who needs to build their portfolio- again just make sure you have a trial!
