diy Nails instead of professional?

Natalie, on February 16, 2018 at 10:49 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 23

I am on a tight budget and I work at a job that does not allow us to have our nails done while working. So this means if I got my nails professionally done, I will be spending money to get them done, and then probably money to get them taken off (because I want french manicures and most places around me do french manicures with gel which requires you to come back in to get them taken off). I was thinking of just getting some stick-on nails. Today I am going to go to the store and try some but I was wondering if anyone else has done this and how it worked out?

I have gotten both acrilyc and gel nails done. If you have the patience you don't need to go back into the salon to get them soaked off. Just file down the glossy layer on them with a course file and then soak them in a bowl of acetone nail polish remover for about 30-45 minutes. You might need to file a bit of the excess left on there off. Then lotion your hands really well.

You can just get regular polish that you take off with acetone done professionally (even a French). You will have so many pictures of your hands, I wouldn't chance doing this yourself.

Exactly this. I get gel manicures and have for the last 2 years. Every once in a while I'm too busy or don't quite have it in the budget to go back to get the polish off and I've learned to do it myself. I watched the nail salon people do it and this is basically what they do. Though, after they file the glossy layer off, they soak cotton balls with nail polish remover and wrap each nail individually with a soaked cotton ball holding it in place with foil. It will be a little rough on your nails, so soak them in olive oil and rub the oil in your nail beds.

You can get stick on nails, butt they are going to cost about the sane amount as a manicure at a nail salon (15 near me), and nail polish remover is cheap enough ( dollar max). I say why risk it

You should get them done at a salon. They can do french tips with regular nail polish/top coat and then you can take them off yourself at home with remover. You don't want to risk the fake press on nails falling off during pictures, hugging people, etc. At least if they are painted you know it can't come off and will stay put throughout the day.

(Side note: I get gel a lot on my regular nail, not acrylics, and I can usually get it off myself pretty easily.)

You should definitely be able to get a french manicure with regular polish at a salon. You don't have to do gel or acrylic. This is a much cheaper option anyway and will last for the wedding. You can easily use acetone to soak or scrub the polish off later.

You'd honestly probably spend almost just as much, if not actually as much, to buy fake ones. Spend a few more dollars and just get them done. You'll be happy you did once you see pictures.

Just do regular polish if you want to save or get just a manicure not gel. Wouldn't get press on nails.

You can do gel on your real nails and just peel it off after! That way they're still professionally done but won't ruin your nails or be stuck for weeks. Mine peeled off kinda like normal polish but had almost a plastic feel.

I wouldn’t risk a stick on nail falling off in the middle of my ceremony. That would be awful!! I would splurge on the nails. They can do a French tip with just polish.

I tried some just to see what they would look and feel like. Any thoughts on actually seeing them?

Check out Jamberry! They stick to your nails and last a good two weeks if not longer. They have like thousands of wraps to choose from. I'm considering them for my nails for the wedding just because they are so cute and so much healthier on my nails then the fake ones. (I currently wear them all the time now. These are my valentines nails. Sorry my fingers are ugly haha

Get normal nail polish with a French, just have everyone grow their nails out a little! So much easier and healthier for your nails

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I tried the stick-on nails but evidently there is something in the glue that irritates my skin. The morning after putting them on my nail beds were red and throbbing. Glad I tried that out before the wedding. I will probably just end up getting gel and peeling them off before work.

They have air bubbles. I would not go this route because if you're planning on getting pictures done, every imperfection can be magnetized. You can do french on your nails. Or just get your nails done the day before the wedding - you shouldn't be working the day before you'll need to rest up! My opinion.

Salons have been doing French manicures long before gel was s thing. Just get a French with regular polish. Shouldn’t be more than $12.

My problem is that I have had regular french manicures a few times before, and I think something about my nails makes the polish chip almost the next day every time. I really do not want to risk that for my wedding
