DIY or Self Serve cocktail hour/open bar

I want to serve beer and wine but I don't want to pay for a bartender since I'm having a small backyard wedding. I was thinking of having beer and wine coolers on ice near the drink station but I don't want the reception to seem like a backyard cookout? Should I just bite the bullet and hire someone...

Should I just bite the bullet and hire someone or do away with alcohol all together?

Hire a bartender for all the reasons above! Plus it adds a classy touch.

The mods have been MIA, VC. I was personally attacked last night, a user threatened to fuck my FH so hard he'd leave me, etc etc etc and not a damn mod in sight. Typical when I'm involved it seems.

I would do a bartender for all of the reasons listed above. Plus the money you pay him or her may be more than made up for those who may pour themselves heavy handedly Smiley smile

Mary, you need to practice what you preach girlfriend! Your little rant made it very far from looking like you're sane and you're taking INTERNET STRANGERS way too seriously..

Here's the thing, I've been a bartender at several weddings in the past 10 years because I'm licensed. Most of the weddings I've served at have been low-key afternoon weddings that needed a last minute bartender for liability purposes (up here you cannot serve alcohol without a licensed bartender). Have a bartender, you do not want to be liable if something happens to one of your guests. Up here if someone leaves an event where alcohol is served and something happens, the person serving, and the venue are liable and the fines can be up to $10,000 and jail time.

OP to answer your question, please hire a bartender. It'll make your life easier and move the liability from you to the company you hire.

And @Mary you're not feeding your vendors and have no qualms about it?!?!?!? Don't be mad when the DJ "accidentally" plays the one song your absolutely didn't want to hear or your photographer "accidentally" forgets to turn on the flash during the most important moment of your reception. If you treat your vendors well, they'll go above and beyond for you.

Nonna, just some irrelevant poster that thinks her shit don't stink. She's treating vendors like crap and is all "IT'S MY DAY!!!" so that tells you a lot right there.

To clarify, you lol or pee in your cereal?

Yup, just a forum. One that you seem to have steeped your very sour self in to dramatically.

Twisted is my middle name btw. Or one of them Smiley smile
