DIY Photo Booth Fabric

Rachael from Nearlyweds, on June 23, 2010 at 12:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

Hi guys, I'm going to be in a wedding in about a month and my gift for the bride at the bridal shower was a DIY photo booth for the wedding. I need to go buy the fabric for the backdrop soon and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with it and what kind of fabric is best? Her colors are bright green, bright orange and bright pink, not neon colors anything, but just really girly colors. I plan to get something flowery, and I'll run it by her before purchasing. Any ideas on what type of fabric gals? I don't want it to be too thin and have light coming through from behind or something.

I don't know about photo technicalities, but as far the fabric purchasing goes, look for coupons for Jo-Ann Fabric in the Sunday paper. They usually have 40% off coupons and that takes it from $10/yd to $6/yd. Or wait for a 50-60% off sale and get it for less.

Oh good call Jessie Lyn! I will do that. Brian- I think the photo booth will have either my Mac taking pictures, disposable cameras, or people's digital cameras. I don't think there will be that many professional pictures taken in the photo booth.

Most of the muslin I have seen comes in white, natural or black, just regular cotton fabrics come in colors (I used to work at Jo-Anns). Is just regular cotton ok Brian? Or you would stick with the muslin? I'm just curious.

Oh yeah it has to be in color, preferably a print.

So you could back a colored cotton with a muslin and it would help?

Rachael - You will want to stick to the quilters section of Jo-Anns, that's where most of the cottons are. There are some interesting calico prints you can get in multi-colors, but you might no be able to find exactly what you want. Another idea is to stick to a solid and cut some strips of fabric or shapes out of another color, and then use fabric glue to attach them. Easy Peasy.

Eehhh, I probably would stay away from prints, especially small ones. It is going to look really busy in the photos. What about painting a scene onto some fabric in her colors? Or, using a more neutral backdrop and adding props in her colors, like boas, parasols, sunglasses, etc. I think they will come out much better that way. I have seen it done recently at weddings, and the guests had a blast too. The couple used them in their final scrap/ guest book.

I think we will hang it in a corner of the tent. The reception is in a large white tent outside.
