diy photo booth with camera on tripod or take your own???

Lindsey, on April 6, 2018 at 6:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hello there!

I am making a DIY photo booth/selfie station for my wedding reception. It would consist of a backdrop, lighting and maybe props. Should I set up a camera on a tripod (I'd post the photos to my wedding website later) or would it be OK to just have people use their own smartphones/cameras?

What's your advice...? Thanks!

At my older sister's wedding, my dad made the photo booth, and we actually used younger sister's laptop and printer on a table. She installed a photo booth program, and had the printer filled with picture paper. Guests would use the laptop, and they could print the photos if they wanted! At the end of the night, there were a lot of photos people saved on the program!
I'd rather have that than a smartphone, like my smartphone can take HORRIBLE pictures if there's not enough light or I'm moving too much...or just doesn't want to focus on anything. It'd be cool if the camera you use on a tripod can be connected to a photo printer!

You definitely need props. I have never been to one without them, it makes it fun. If you are doing this make sure the camera i charged.. I assume it will have a timer, so you will need a sign there for people who are not familiar with how to work it.

I'm planning to set up a photo station, but I think I'm going to let people use their phones. That way they can share the photos at their leisure, and I wouldn't feel the need to have someone monitoring the camera all evening.

I personally wouldn’t do a camera and tripod- too many accidents could happen that would make a guest feel bad! I would set up a selfie station and if anything get a few selfie sticks to lay out so they can use a selfie stick to take their photos! (mostly for younger crowds, not older realatives and grandparents, although I don’t know if they would like a photo booth either way lol!)

A few of FH's friends that got married last yesr just set up an area and people took pictures on their own phones/cameras. It went over fine but not a ton of people used it. It was more casual and kind of "walk up for a pic when you want one" but they were still used.

We hired a friend's DIL for a $100 just to take pictures at our DIY photo booth. I thought about doing a tripod with a camera, but I didn't want it to get broken. Having people take selfies could work if you have a social media app for them to tag or post them too so that you get to see them.
