Diy photo booth

Amanda, on February 10, 2016 at 5:29 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 18

So I'm not sure how to go about having a diy photo booth. Would I buy disposable cameras? Would I have a designated camera and people can just use that? Would the guests use their own camera?

My friend did this. She hired a couple boy scouts to take pictures for people. She used my digital camera. Then I put all the photos on Google and guests could download/print as they pleased. The boy scouts were great and did a good job.

    Definitely use a digital camera.

I was trying to figure out the same thing. I could make a backdrop with fabric from Michaels. But don't know how to get the pictures to guests right away

A friend mentioned doing this for our wedding. I guess there is an app you can use on the iPad and you just leave it there and people take their own pics. I think it had the option to hook a printer up to it also.

Honestly, with the amount of work to get this ready and having someone on standby if something goes wrong, it is so much better to just hire a company to do it. My BIL's each own a company that does this and they offer custom backdrops/prints and social media posting for you and it's really affordable. I am sure that you can find someone within your budget.

Excellent questions Amanda!!! I photographed a wedding this past summer that had a DIY photobooth and it was a HUGE hit. The following :

    1. People used their cell phone and the couple had a hashtag and asked to be tagged on FB. Those instructions were on the table where all the props were.

2.The backdrop was located where there was tons of traffic but plenty of room for people to walk around the line, wait in line, etc. IMO having the backdrop up against a wall or in a corner is best. If guests are able to walk behind it, they will. That would be dangerous.

3.A 4x4 table of props was next to the backdrop. The props were clean, brand new, and they had a variety.

4.It was up all night and it was used all night!

5.Lighitng for cell phone pics : Place by windows or well lit area. Lighting it properly is key and one of the main reason why couples bring in a pro.

6.Do not use disposable cameras. Use cell phones. If you want to have someone run the booth, hire a booth company. This takes a lot of time and if it's something you'll enjoy doing go for it. If not, hiring a pro is well worth the $. Booths are always a huge hit from my experience.

7.I looked on Pinterest ... TONS of great ideas. I would do lightweight frame and fabric and new props.

    Best wishes!

I think we'll buy a tripod with a camera on it, and also have a selfie stick there if people want to take the pictures on their own phone. We will make a throwaway flickr (or similar) account and make a sign with the login info to encourage people to upload it there. If you have them use your own camera, all the pics are in one place, but it might not be easy for people to figure out what to do... even if you have instructions written, it's likely that someone will accidentally change the "mode" and then the pictures might come out strangely.

If you would like to give them pictures immediately (to put in a guest book or keep as a souvenir, for example), there are wireless printers that could work well.

I've seen people use an iPad or over tablets on a tripod.

I have run through so many ideas of what to do for our photobooth. I don't want the expense but want the fun! I have already dyed fabric strips that will hang from a curtain rod. I have to build the stand.

I will buy 1-2 umbrella lighting and a few props. I will turn it into a selfie booth instead. I am looking into refurbished I pods or cell phones with good cameras, this way we can upload them to social media later.

Any wedding about a year ago, people took the backdrop where the ceremony was performed, and use that as a photo booth with their cell phones

There are a couple of ways to do this. There is an instructable that shows you how to make a more authentic one (4 photos taken about 10 seconds apart) with an ipad, a dslr, and a special memory card. You can also use a wifi camera or phone and print to a fuji printer. Or even a polaroid-style camera. If we do one, we'll set up a dslr with a remote people can use to snap the photo, then either print on-site with a fuji printer, or post them online after. Haven't decided for sure yet though.

I think people could use their phone cameras, and probably would anyway in a DIY Photobooth. We are doing one and thinking of providing an instax mini that will print small Polaroids. Still unsure if we want to keep the pictures for an album or have people take them like favors.

Please pay attention to what Kathleen said.

Lighting is by far the most important element. Whatever else you choose to do, have lots of light on people's faces so the pictures are good.

I think some people would use their phones or use it as a "selfie station". You can always post them to IG with a cute hashtag or social media, people can just steal pics off of that and you can print the ones you like.

My sister just set up props and a space to do photos and had guests take their own photos and it worked out.
