DIY Program Fans; HELP!

Brandah, on April 25, 2014 at 6:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

I am wanting to my programs as a fan on a popsicle stick. Hoping to help keep my guests cool in my mid July wedding.. outside. Anybody know where I can get a good template or by a cheap template so I can do it myself.

I'm just planning on printing on card stock, and using scrap booking scissors to cut around the edges to make them pretty.

I bought my template off Etsy for $8, but there are dozens of free ones online. I picked mine because it fit my overall style and feel for the wedding (and in our wedding color).

I'm using 4x6" cards glued together with the Popsicle stick between and then punching the corners with a decorative punch to finish the edges.

I found one by just googling "DIY paper fan program" and just downloaded some fonts and made it my own.

We ordered the wooden handles from Amazon. For your card stock make sure you use heavy enough paper so it wont' be flimsy. I found 80# wasn't thick enough, but 110# seemed right on the mark. We wanted double sided so we could have the ceremony events on one side and the wedding party listed on the other side. The DIY kits I found were only single sided and as much as $50 for 50 fans. I was able to buy the card stock (enough for 100 double sided fans, plus extra for other card stock projects like escort cards) and 100 handles for less than $30. The kits are great if you need some guidance or short on time, but you do pay for that convenience.

If you can't get cardstock to go through your printer, you can print onto paper and paste it to the cardstock.

These are great ideas! I would add that tongue depressors should work for handles -- you don't necessarily need to buy "fan" handles, which might be more expensive than needed.
