DIY question.................aisle runner

Midwest May, on April 13, 2016 at 3:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 29

Standard white aisle runner. Blue satin table runners. What is the best way to attach the satin runners to the center of the aisle runner? Does it have to be sewn? Are the fabric glues really good enough? Found a craft duct tape that matches PERFECTLY, would it be tacky to tape it down?

Any other suggestions?

Yes tacky to tape it down. Is this something your FDIL even wants?

I'd sew it. Never saw the purpose for going that far with the decorating.

YES, she specifically found the inspiration picture and asked if it was something I could do.

Runners are not necessary and I have not heard anything good about them...

I would do double sided tape or glue. Sewing something that long would be hard. You could also maybe pin it on the bottom, if it's outside.

Satin on satin sounds like double the tripping hazard.

I don't really have any advice. but I just wanted to say that I think it's great you're helping with the wedding and asking for advice. Your son and FDIL are lucky!

Just to confirm, she wants a white aisle runnier with a giant blue stripe down the center?

Maybe we should start questioning your future DIL's taste.

In all honesty, I am trying to picture this. I brought it up to my seamstress friend who owned a bridal shop and her reply was "Not only will the table runners have to be attached up the sides by they will have to be sewn together as well, since they won't be as long as the aisle runner. That will cause a lot of seams which might be unsightly and a tripping hazard."

Then she said something along the lines of $%^&%&^*&(^%#$#@%* pinterest Smiley smile

Uhmm..couldn't you dye a standard white aisle runner to blue (or buy a blue one) and stitch white fabric or lace to the edges?

Here is the picture she sent me. Yes, I know that is a table with tablecloths and the runners are being used in a conventional way. Yes, I anticipated I would have to sew 3 or 4 together before attaching them to the aisle runner. The aisle runner isn't satin, it's feels like a cotton, like a really heavy interfacing material. It sounds like Ostricher's idea of using double faced fabric tape is my best bet.

LOL Tina, I have no idea why she wants it, I don't know who she's planning on rolling it down the aisle or when. If they don't do it at the beginning of the processional, the guests will have no choice but to walk on it to get to their seats and that's likely to cause issues. But according to the girls, I should wear taupe and keep my mouth shut. Just doing the best I can.

This sounds like a tripping hazard. Or it would get on caught on a wheelchair.

If you must do this, do not tape it. Taping will make it more hazardous. Sew it.

I would say to sew it. It wouldn't be difficult to sew at all with it being a straight line. I wouldn't use fabric tape because it can cause a wavy effect in my experience.
