diy Reception Lighting

Summer, on January 3, 2018 at 4:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 7

Does anyone have any advice for stringing bulb lights over reception tables. I will be doing it myself (with help from family) and want to get any advice from people who know how to do it. Heres a photo for reference.

Make sure you talk to your venue first. My venue was very strict about what/how to hang anything to their trees, walls, etc.

Check with your venue to make sure you are allowed to do this. Lots of venues won’t let you climb a ladder without insurance. You’ll also want to make sure they have power outlets, or else you’ll need to bring in extra cables.

As for how to attach them, it again depends on the venue. Will they be attached to walls? Trees? Poles? Can you put screws into the surface?

Mine is in a large backyard. So I either have to build posts or attach to trees.

Got it. I think the easiest way would be to attach the lights to the trees, as long as they aren't too far apart. You can get zip ties that have screw holes in them. So you wrap the zip tie around the cable and then screw it into the tree. If the homeowners aren't comfortable with that, you can try wrapping larger zip ties around the trees. You could also bring in pipes with weighted bases, but you'd have to rent them.

Also, be really careful about how you run the power cables so that you don't create a trip hazard.

My bff attaches to posts that stood in painted umbrella stands so it can be done! I would talk to your photographer first, I’ve heard from multiple brides they didn’t realize it messed with the lighting of their photos until after! Just a thought

We are going to have to make our own poles and string everything ourselves as there aren't trees where we are doing it. We have scoped out some different weighted options. I think what you do 100% depends on if you can use the trees and how many lights you want. We are making the cement bases ourselves using stained wood and quickrete. We are also going to use running wire so that the lights down hang too low over the tables. It is a very involved project though and if you can use trees it will make it sooooo much easier. Other options are the cement bases for porches that have the metal attached for a 4x4 or people use plant pots.
