DIY regrets or patting yourself on the back?

Amber, on June 4, 2017 at 7:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 40

Pintrest is making me THINK I can do so many things LOL. I've never really been crafty so I don't know why I'm thinking wedding stuff will be any different. All the great ideas I'm seeing online make me think me and my girls can just get together with some music and cocktails and make magic happen! Anyone regret any DIY or happy/proud of the things they've done themselves?

Oh yeah!! Pinterest showed me how unskilled I am at crafting. I've lost count at how many things I screwed up.

I'm so happy with my DIY creations that I'm actually considering opening an Etsy store. If you like crafting I say do it.

Haha Pinterest is the best/worst. I've had my share of wins and fails from Pinterest inspired posts. It can be quite a bit of work/$ though. I like doing diy projects and would consider myself to be pretty crafty, but I've definitely scaled back on the amount of diy that I'll make for our wedding. Good luck!

I made my own bouquet and centerpieces. I was pleased with them, but if we had needed a lot more I wouldn't have done it. We also 3D printed bicycles to tie to the escort cards. Our 3D printer died, so we had to find someone on Etsy to finish the job. They turned out really cute, but they were more of a hassle than I would have liked.

I just did these this past weekend that I'm pretty proud of. I only like DIY projects when they don't LOOK DIY so when I'm doing something it has to be well done or I get frustrated and just buy it. But these actually turned out okay to my liking. Use $1 frames from dollar tree and some spray paint and my cricut.

Mrs. D I totally agree. I've been trying to create stuff and get frustrated and say forget it! Although I have a Silhouette Cameo and am looking for ways to put it to work. I've only had it for a year but haven't been able to venture out as much as I'd like.

    DIY fail here.

My centerpieces. Ugggh. Don't like them. I feel like I didn't really have a clear vision in my head and it shows. Though my mom and FH supposedly like them

ETA: they will have water and a floating candle in them

I was stoked to do my bouquet with paper flowers. Then my BMs wanted the same. Which means the GMs had to match. Which meant I also had to have the father's and mother match. So much regret!! But then my BMs got together and have been amazing help. My MOH had a hard time with the flowers themselves, but she's been making kickass bouteniers and giant flat flowers that I may steal for the mother's corsages or use for hair pieces for my girls. Once I had help, I didn't feel so overwhelmed. It's going to look so beautiful and my BMs love the fact that they have a part in the bouquets. None of us like real or fake flowers.

On another note, my dad is helping make signs, a photo prop, and a "sandy feet station" for me. He's awesome. I'll be doing all the painting, he's just just slapping boards together. My mom bought a Cricut to make my bouquet making much easier and she keeps getting ideas on what to make for my wedding.

All is voluntary help, and it's helped me not regret getting myself into this literal mess lol.

Patting myself on the back. I actually really surprised myself with what I was able to accomplish.

I made a welcome sign but DH didn't cut the wood down to size for me until the night before we left. So I had to finish it at like 3am, I was exhausted and it did not turn out very well. We used it anyway but I was disappointed in it because I didn't have enough time to make it look the way I wanted it to. I wish I had just bought one instead, or skipped it altogether.

I made sure what I made was SIMPLE so I wouldn't stress out too much. Like some signs, escort cards, programs etc.

I started working on my diy projects awhile back. So far I've gotten the seed packets for our favors, the stained glass TARDIS vases, and the bouts done. I made the paper flowers, though I need soooooo many more flowers lol. I've also picked up the pattern for my dress, but I haven't started it yet. No regrets so far, I've saved a ton of money so far and got things exactly the way I've wanted them. Eta periods, holy run on sentence Batman

I did it all myself and wish I had that time back to focus on other things. It turned out great but did end up costing more than if I'd bought it.

Patting myself on the back...I did my centerpieces and bouquets myself. Very happy with the results...then again I wasn't too worried either.

I'm making a ton of stuff. Just don't count on your friends helping you, sometimes things magically come up and you're on your own making 200 of something 2 weeks from the wedding and you'll be stressed. I'm doing everything on my own and expected it to be that way.
