DIY rehearsal dinner

Ashley, on December 4, 2012 at 6:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

We found a free venue to rehearse in, and although it's not the actual venue I like to tell myself how can you mess up walking down an aisle that bad? lol, so getting a close enough practice is close enough.

Anyways - FMIL was already planning on spending $500 on the dinner but I told her we could make a dinner ourselves and save her the money. She's bought us a ton of wedding gifts already so I don't want to make pay for the dinner. What are dinner ideas that we could do at the rehearsal dinner that we make ourselves? I guess my fail safe is spaghetti, but I wanted to hear other ideas Smiley smile

We're doing like quite a few others and ordering pizza. We'll toss a large salad and get a few bottles of soda. That should do it.

Don't cook, you will not want to :-) Just order pizza and get some soda and cookies. That won't be very expensive and it's going to be 0 hassle for you.

Not many of my couples do a separate rehearsal; it's walking and standing. Your officiant should go over all the little details before the ceremony, but it's really not brain surgery. The best part of the rehearsal dinner is definitely the chance to chill and relax with your bridal party and families.

Don't cook. Order pizza, wings, salads; serve sangria and wine and enjoy a relaxing night with everyone.

We are doing pizza and sodas and water. And we are making a huge salad. Everyone is thrilled. We are having the OOT guests too. So it will be about 10 pizzas. We are having guests for a week. Lots of them.

I agree, don't cook. If you don't want to do pizza, find a place that will do italian beef or sausage and peppers. Sometimes they also have pasta. It's relatively inexpensive to have that and you can have someone pick up and less mess.

We are having pizzas for a late night snack at the reception... thinking I might make some pulled pork or pulled turkey with buns and maybe some potato salad or something like that. Pretty easy, can be made ahead and frozen.

I have not made a formal plan, but am thinking we can do the rehearsal at our venue (it is free) and then have crockpots at our house after the fact with a cooler with beer and some wine etc.

How about setup a bar/buffet to make your own calzones. You can buy already made pizza dough and set out all the fixings! It's alittle more "gourmet" than delivered pizza...we do it with adults and kids and they all love it!

Tip: leave out the pizza sauce and use it as a dip, the calzones bake faster and more even. Smiley winking

With our wedding being in Calgary during the Stampede we're doing a Stampede BBQ at our house for the rehearsal dinner...both our dads are going to help with the BBQ's and I'll pre-make salads, veggie trays, meat/cheese/cracker trays and that will be it...oh and I'll pre-make mini cheese cakes in small mason (FH's favorite dessert is cheese cake) jars the day before..

I'm going to have my rehearsal dinner at my house but have the food catered by one of my favorite Latin restaurants. We will pick the food up on our way home from the rehearsal since it isn't too far away from the venue and chill at home. I will probably toss a salad with it and have some drinks and a cake. Nice and easy!

I'm not a big fan of the pizza thing, I'd rather do BBQ! I think it's a little nicer than pizza boxes all over the place... lol

I wanted tacos. FMIL just asked me if she could book a vineyard. sigh. So we are still working on compromising for that one. And by compromise I mean, telling her that we are having tacos. lol.

We are cooking, but we are foodies with plans to eventually open a culinary-related business, so have plenty of experience catering to a crowd (only about 20). Plus, it is just brunch, as we will have nail appoitments, etc. later in the afternoon. We have lots of family coming in from out of town on both sides, and I think this is the only time we will get to cook for them the whole time. Cooking = love.

We're having bbq at the reception otherwise I would go with bbq for the rehearsal.

Pizza didn't go over well with M because of how pricey it is where we live. We live on an island so the choices are very limited. So we may just do cooking, spaghetti & salad is easy for big crowds.

Alisa H - What are you going to cook for your guests? Smiley smile

I second with having t catered- Wegmans makes super yummy sandwich trays and pizza and bbq are good options too. Many restaurants offer party platters/catering options- Panera is one also. It will be so much easier!

I wish I could do this- FH wanted a nice fancy thing which will now cost us about $900... grr.

Oh my goodness Jamie I LOVE Panera, but there isn't one where I live. In the area I live in there's only one place I could think of catering that everyone would enjoy but it's going to be a big check.
