DIY Ribbon Wands - pics!

Hollywoll, on March 17, 2011 at 4:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

Lol, another of Holly's DIY projects. I was busy lately!

I saw this one day browsing for ideas and thought it was perfect! http://ruffledblog.com/diy-ribbon-wands-wedding-sendoff/

In total for dowels and ribbon it cost me around $40 to make 76 of these babies. In total effort, I think they took two people about 4 hours, although I did all the tying and gluing by myself. My FH did most of the cutting and sanding of the dowels. Smiley laugh I LOVE HIM!

And they're different than the usual bubbles or sparklers. Smiley smile

Another idea if you want to use tinsel.

Very cool effect. Love them both.

I love it. They are cute. I can't use them though. We have no grand exit. We are just sort of rolling up to the room. Smiley smile

I made these, and used shiskabob (or however the heck its spelled!) sticks and cut off the pointy ends.

i got 100 sticks for 1.00 at walmart

and approx 1.00 a yard for ribbon

spent abut 25-30 give or take.

and it took a couple hours t make.

When do you use these anyhow? is this after the ceremony on the way to the reception or is this after the reception on your way to the hotel/honeymoon? I know I'm probably the only bride in the world that doesn't already know this.. ;P

I like the ribbons!! But I also like the tinsel ones.. hmmmmmmmmmm...

Soon to be bride - I used dowel sticks - you can get them at any craft store. Mine were 59 cents each. They are very sturdy, but splinter easy when cut, which is why I sanded them.

And Jen, this is for the send off. I'm going to use them when we leave the reception. Smiley smile

We are doing this too! If you google "wooden dowels" you can find them wholesale for cheaper.

We did them for the recessional. Half the guests got noisemakers, and the other half got ribbon wands (you can see a few on the right-hand side of the photo).

We had SIL's fiance hand them out at the door and explain that they were for the recessional...and people LOVED it and made quite a racket. Two of our guests even waved them during the family and friends affirmation during the ceremony. ("Do you affirm you will support this marriage?" "We do" *ribbon wave and a cheer*)

We used dowels, ribbon in black, red and yellow, and hot glue.
