DIY Ribbon Wands

jola.d.wedding, on April 4, 2012 at 9:59 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 32

Has anyone done this?

I am thinking of using this website for direction http://thetwips.com/blog/diy-ideas/ribbon-in-the-sky-diy/

Anyone know a good ribbon wholesale site?? or any advice if you have made these before? I think I am going to add little bells, I saw them at Joanns for low cost.

Thanks!

I made them with a similar method (dowel rods and eyelet hooks) and they were pretty easy - it's easier on your fingers if you have a pair of pliers to help twist the eyelet hook into place. It's kind of mindless and relaxing like knitting once you get in the rhythm of it. I used no-fray on the ends of the ribbon.

Just make sure you have your timeline down pat before you spend the time. After I made ours, we realized we weren't doing a grand exit. Oh well!

I saw the dowels and bells were a good price @ Joann's but I wasn't digging the ribbon choices when I went looking for my card box decorations. Limited.

No, they are very pretty, but I am deep purple and orange for my wedding, but I saw another blog with ivory, champagne, and a muted gold, which was pretty too.

After our kiss and we walk down the aisle & then hopefully for people to use instead of clinnking glasses if they want us to kiss, I'm thinking of designing a sign that goes with them and the programs that says

Wave your wand to wish them well

Show your love by ringing your bell

    &

If you should wish to see them kiss

Wave them again so they won’t miss.

I am in the process of making our wedding wands. They are extremely time consuming. I also put bells on the top of ours. I used 2 different shades of purple. I took 1 strand and glued it around the entire end of the dowel and then I did it with the next color, and glued the bell on the top of the dowel. Seems to have worked. The glue gets stringy so I have to go back and clean them up a bit. I got my mom and my sister to come help me with making 140 of them and it took us some time and we still aren't done. Good Luck!

Such a cute idea, I might have to make some for the kids at the reception to just play around with....... I hate to be the idea thief, but I am pretty sure I am gonna take this one if ya don't mind!! are you just going to use fabric glue to hold the ribbon in place?

@ Kris S. can you give me more detail on the hook & eyelets part? How did you fasten the hook or eyelet to the rod? What size of hooks & eyelets did you use?

    Hot glue I'm pretty sure

In depth hook and eye...too much for me!

I am doing these as well!

Normally I would DIY but found an amazing price (less than a dollar) per WW on Etsy with bells. Smiley smile

I am doing these as well - I love them!! I first found them on Etsy but lately have been thinking of making them myself. Joann's has all the stuff for cheap.

Aimee ... All the ones I found on Etsy were over a dollar ... Would you mind posting a link to the ones you found?? Thanks Smiley smile

I just bought a kit for mine, I got 50 wands and my ribbon is personalized for $53 including shipping, I do have to assemble them with hot glue. I'm not a big DIY person so I thought the kit would be better for me. @kris we are not having a grand exit at the end of the night either, my guest will be instructed to wave them after we are pronounced husband and wife and again as we enter the reception, mainly for the photo opt. Let's see how many wands make it to the reception though.Smiley smile

    Hi ladies,

It looks like she went up a few pennies but I still think a dollar a wand with two colors and THREE bells is great!

I could probably save a few dollars doing them myself but hot glue and dowels seem too painstaking for me. I'd rather let someone else burn themselves. Smiley winking

    Awwww.

Ya I'm going to price it out one more time and see what the FH says.

We saw the ribbon we wanted and it was going to be about 5 rolls at $7 on top of the second ribbon, balls and dowels.
