Diy selfie station

Stacy, on October 21, 2017 at 8:42 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

We want a photobooth, but they're too much and it's too late to book one. Has anyone tried a selfie station? I saw them on Pinterest, and liked the idea. I just want to know how well it works out, and if it's worth the work.

We're making a backdrop because it will not only save us a lot of money, it will be a fun thing for us to do together. I saw one on Pinterest that I'm using as inspiration and people I've told about it said that it sounds like it would be so much fun. We want to have ours at the entrance of our venue.

I just bought a backdrop on Amazon for an open air photo booth! (It's for friendsgiving- I go a little overboard)

I didn't do a huge amount of browsing, but I found a gold one, 9 feet long for about $15! They also had a lot of photo booth props around $10-15 as well Smiley smile

I feel like it's definitely something you can pull off on a small budget, and still have it look nice! Typically I would say make sure you know your crowd, as it would suck to not have anyone use it if you've poured a lot of money into it, but with this, I think it would be worth the risk Smiley smile

I wouldn't trust a selfie stick with that, unless they make one specifically for that camera. I am just planning to let people take their own photos and will ask them to hashtag their photos on instagram. We aren't using those photos as our guestbook so it's not a big deal for us. For us, it was just about providing our guests with something fun.

I looked a little closer, and there is a hole for a tripod, as well as a selfie timer and photobooth option (hold timer button for 3 seconds and it takes 4 pics 4 seconds apart) so I'm gonna set that up and put instructions on the table with the props

    Oh of course!

This is what I bought- again, just for friendsgiving in my house so nothing spectacular.

I found these which are in my opinion nicer looking- a couple dollars more though.

I read through the reviews for the last two- it seems people either purchased an actual backdrop stand (saw some for around $30), used curtain rods to hold them up, or some people stated that they did just use tacks and they had zero issues.

We are doing one. We already had a portable stand for a backdrop, so I just got some cheap black curtains. We got all sorts of props and then selfie sticks. The selfie sticks only work with non iPhones though, so I'm going to connect my iPhone adapter (for ear buds) to one and will have one for iPhones and one for non iPhones. I'm not sure yet what we are doing for lighting because it will be pretty dark in there. We have some lights we use for projects or the garage that clip and I think we can clip them to the side or ceiling in that spot to make it work. We thought about doing a tripod and cheap camera but I've never gotten around to that. We are just going to put up a little sign with instructions and assume people can figure it out. They'll have to use the timer in their phones to make it work I think.
