DIY Sola wood bouquet trial

Future Mrs.B, on July 19, 2017 at 3:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

So before plunging and purchasing a ton of sola wood flowers.. i decided to get a couple from hobby lobby and do a mini mock bouquet. Id like to use real greenery or preserved greenery not the faux greenery shown on the pictures. What do you guys think? I had to hand paint because dipping didnt turn out as well

I had to dip a few times to get the color as I wanted it. I hate how sola flowers look with flash, they absorb the light weird and look so fake to me so I like the first picture better. I'll be telling my photog to get them in natural light and not use flash on them. I like yours a lot, I think it's a good start. If you use real greenery, you may have to assemble them the day before/day of possibly to keep the filler looking nice? I used dried greenery from curiouscountrycreations.com.

Come to think of it, OP, I kind of like your artificial greenery. But I think you need more filler of some sort.

Yea it does need more filler. How much color dod you use to water ratio for the dipping? I think it requires a lot more paint?

I think they look really pretty! Your first picture looks like real roses. The ribbon wrap needs some work. It looks a little like a worm.

@FMB.. I used the little $.50 4 oz tubes of acrylic paint from walmart and added hot water to it. probably 3-1 paint-water. It was soupy like. Make sure you mix the paint well though. I added some black to make my grey darker and I had some splotches of black on some of my flowers because it didn't get mixed in well enough. The purple ones I dipped 2-3 times.

It looks beautiful! I did the exact same process with my bouquet. Bought at Hobby Lobby to test, and ended up painting instead of dipping (it didn't work as well and seemed like a lot of wasted paint to me).

I think I'd add more artificial greenery if I were you. I went with dried, and while I like the looks of it, it was kind of a pain to work with. Real might be nice too, but that'd leave assembly up until the last moment and would be stressful (at least for me).
