DIY Sweetheart Backdrop

FMP, on October 19, 2016 at 3:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Are any of you making a backdrop for your sweetheart table? I really want to make one, but I'm not sure how I would do it. I kind of want a cascading flower backdrop (fake flowers)... but I don't know how I would build a frame or how I would do it. As always, any ideas are appreciated Smiley smile

That seems like it would take a lot of time and patience. Kudos to you if you have that!

Maybe you can just have them hanging on strings somehow. Like this:

Lol if I knew how to do it right, I would totally take all of the time to do it... I'm thinking maybe I could build a PVC pipe frame... but then I wouldn't want the pipe showing, I'd have to cover it with something... ugh... I don't know. And then how would I transport it to the venue?? Sheesh....A girl can dream.

@Erin Wood.. I'm okay with that idea.. but where would the strings hang from. Would I build a frame? Or construct some sort of curtain?

PVC would probably work. You could completely cover it with greenery or even a nice fabric. Spray paint is also an option. You can make PVC look surprisingly good with the right spray paint. Like these hanging succulent planters are PVC and you'd never really know. Search Pinterest for ideas on concealing it Smiley smile.

I don't want a floral wall so this may be different, but in the end using a vendor for my backdrops turned out to be the same cost than DIY would be, so I'd research that.

I want a glitter backdrop behind our reception couch, assumed it would be $300, realized I could purchase a photography backdrop frame on amazon for $35 and the glitter backdrop for $90.

Found out today a vendor can do it for the exact same cost, but it is even bigger and includes set up and tear down. Vendors FTW!

I have no idea is this will even help. But what if you get some clear fishing line and either use floral wiring or hot glue or a combo of both to have them cascading.

@FutureMrsB.. what kind of vendor is it? A professional decorator? I have to do some research. You're probably right.. that many flowers is going to cost $$$.

Also, I thought maybe of doing some clear fishing line and hanging it kind of like you would a picture frame.

Does your venue have any ideas? I know my venue provides an arch and maybe it can be moved after the ceremony to behind your sweetheart table.

It appears that on this picture they are tied to the closet shelves and hung from the ceiling. Using the shelving would be a lot easier than PVC pipe and would be easier to transport. The main concern would be how to attach it to the ceiling. Also going that route, you would need more flowers.

If you are hanging anything you also need a frame or need to make sure your venue allows you to hang things.

My vendor does lighting, sound, draping, and decor rentals (which is the backdrop part). I didn't find any until I asked my venue "how do people make the walls look pretty?"

I also found arches on eBay for $20. Maybe just buy one and hang flowers from it. Definitely talk to your venue first.
