diy Tent Draping

Cassidy, on October 21, 2020 at 3:10 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

Hi! So we are being gifted a wedding tent from a rental company my fiancé does business with. I really love "open air" tents and definitely want one.

Most tent companies don't want to drape another companies tent. It doesn't make sense financially to do rent a tent from a company that will drape it if we're getting a 40x80 tent for free. So, I'll be doing it myself.

SO! Have any of you DIY brides done this? Does anyone have any tips? Are their companies that rent chiffon for voile that you've used? (I haven't been able to find too many in the LA area). Buying seems to be the cheaper option (surprisingly) but what the heck do I do with the fabric afterwards?? Any tips or suggestions are appreciated!

Also, I am fully aware this is way harder than just renting from a company that will do it is easier. I am more than capable of doing this myself even though I know its not an easy task. A lot of people have just tried to tell me not to do it myself and at this point I am ready for the challenge lol.

If you are capable of doing it, I say go for it! I wanted to throw an idea into the mix though... have you thought of doing a clear tent and draping it? Clear tents are gorgeous (especially lit up with twinkle lights at night), and would provide protection from the rain just in case you end up with inclement weather!

There is no way I would have done our tent draping...lol the tent is so big and tall... not sure when you would have time? We were booked solid 3 days up until our wedding. You would need multiple people and ladders and the tent would have to be set up before the big day. Just some things to think about!

That’s a big task (but you know that already). If your FH’s job is gifting you a tent, can you maybe pay the rate for them to drape it too. Otherwise, what’s your current plan if attack for doing it DIY? Also, if fabric is cheaper, then purchase the amount you need and toss it out afterward. There’s just no way to get around wasting some amount of money when planning a wedding.

If you do purchase it you can just resell it in a wedding group on fb, that’s what most do

Thats smart, I actually hadn't thought of paying the company to do the draping thanks for the idea! And you're totally right, there's no way to not waste some money lol!!
