diy two tier cathedral lace trim veil

Amber, on July 9, 2018 at 1:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 2 33
Hey ladies!!! I just wanted to share how I made my diy two tier cathedral veil becasue I know I spent hours looking online for all the help but couldn’t find exactly what I needed.

I first found out the information on how long and wide it should be. A catherdal veil is usually 120 in. long and 108 in. wide. Now becasue I wanted a blusher, add 30 in. in length. I bought 5 yards of 108in. wide tulle from Joanne fabrics for $6.38 and the lace trim I bought off Etsy for $83. I found bridal trim I loved from hobby lobby but found the exact same lace for $30 cheaper on Etsy so that saved me a bunch. I used clear thread and a comb from hobby lobby.

Currently in the photos, only the lace trim is pinned to the tulle. I’m a full time student finishing my senior year a semester early so I’m really trying to find the ime to to sit down and begin the process. Plus I have 9 cats so that’s really hard to do with them trying to play in it Smiley xd 4 of them are mine and 5 are fosters Smiley heart

Also don’t mind the baggy wedding dress lol it needs to be fitted still and I’m not wearing my slip to add volume. PS, I also saved money by buying my wedding dress from a resale shop...$25 and it looks brand new.

I went to a couple bridal shops and for a plain cathedral veil it was about $600. I thought that was crazy! I also looking into Etsy but I really wanted a specific lace so I decided to do it myself.

It does take time and I see why they are so expensive but I’ve saved over a grand by doing it myself than buying from a bridal shop 😊

I LOVE THIS!! I thought I had enough tulle but I see now that I’ll need to go get more.

How many yard of trim did you buy (is it 5 yds also)? Also, how did you affix the comb to the veil? Could you PLEASE show a close up?

There are to ways to see on a comb. 1st way you sew a line from tip to tip and when you pull it bunches it all together and is very full. I would only use that option for a 1 tier veil because you’ll find out that once you do this your veil is in half and won’t fall over your shoulders nicely. 2nd way is you find the center of the veil and go out about a foot on each side of the center and do the same technique as the first technique. This way though allows the veil to fall over your shoulders.

You will take the needle and thread and just go in and out down the line and when you are finished it will pull tight like shoe laces. You will then tie it off and sew it into your comb. Now you will want to sew sew sew and make sure the veil is really attached to the comb cus the last thing you want is to lose it down the aisle!!!!

I had bought 5 yds of tulle. I bought that much to give myself some lee-way but I was so excited to start I forgot to trim it down. So instead of my blusher + veil being 150in long and 108in wide my veil ended up veil 180in long in total length and about 103-105 in wide cus I was trimming it trying to get it perfect 🤦🏼‍♀️

Now let’s say you want a typical cathedral 2 tier veil that is 120in long + 30in blusher & 108in wide with trim around all the edges like mine. Then you would add up all the sides 108x2 + 150x2= 516in then you would divide that by 36in (3 ft)= 14.33 yds of trim. Which I would then round up to 15 yds of trim to be careful.

So all together for supplies you would need 15 yds of trim, 4.2 yds of tulle, a needle, a comb, and either white, ivory, or transparent thread.
