DIY Veil

Jordan, on June 1, 2016 at 5:06 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I plan on attempting a DIY for my veil, which is going to be cathedral length & simple. I may add a satin ribbon to the edge but I dont want it to clash with my taffeta dress? So I don't know what type of finish I want to do to the edges. But my question is this, who out there has made their own veil or someone else's? I need as much tips and advice on this as I can get! I am going to attempt it soon so I can leave myself plenty of time to either retry to make it if I mess up or go out and just buy one haha.

TIA!

My dress was taffeta and I had a satin edge on my cathedral-length veil! No help on DIYing though. I've heard lots of girls have good luck buying on etsy, though!

@annakay511 that's beautiful! You look stunning! I'm definitely going to try a satin trim now. And if I don't have luck I'll order off of etsy. Thanks!!

My veil is cathedral length and is simple tulle. I bought mine off of lightinthebox.com. I paid $12 for it. They had one for $8 but it didn't have a comb. I wanted the comb LOL.

I've bought many things from overseas and have no complaints. I bought a two tiered lace trim catherdral length veil and I love it BUT it's shorter than my dress ;-( and now I am going to attempt to make my own. I would also appreciate the advice from anyone who has made one. Youtube has a lot of tutorial videos as well. I visited a local fabrics store and bought the tulle for $1.50/yard and I bought a lace trim which now I do not like much cause it's too ivory (it was only $.50/yard)

At bridal salons the ivory veils always look almost white, I'm worried that my ivory tulle may be too dark.

Where is the best place to buy Alecon Lace Trim for the veil? Has anyone ever gotten them at a Michaels or Joann fabrics?

Almost_MLF made her own lace-trimmed cathedral length veil and it's beautiful. Check it out at https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/veil-regret/8a779117d7b7633f.html

If you like it, you could page her by adding her name to the title of your thread.

A cathedral veil shorter than your dress??? How did that happen LOL???? I would be upset. Does your dress have a really long train? My dress has a train but not a very long one and my veil is way longer than my train on my dress. It doesn't have a trim either; I didn't want any. I wanted just a light weight simple tulle veil. I am sorry the veil was a dud.

Going to get supplies to start this process this weekend I think - so excited! Planning to buy the tulle in person so I can get a good feel for a sturdy one and applique that matches the style of my dress. I love the applique on the edges of the veil. I'm going to do a pretty long one because my dress will have a long train.

Happy to have a veil making buddy!
