DIY Wedding Card Box Ideas?

We're using a fake hollowed out book as our card box. Our theme is tropical getaway so we have travel elements like this book that has a map design on it.

I unfortunately don’t have a picture but we’re just using an old fashioned looking fake birdcage that opens at the top. Our venue has an amazing staircase that will be used for a lot of pics so we’re basing our reception decor based off of that. I got it on sale at michael’s for like $15 and can decorate with it again. Here’s the staircase for reference

We used this.

We re-purposed it as a display box afterwards.


I tried to make sure that everything that had to be purchased was going to be re-usable.

It can be Spray Painted to whatever color you want for the Wedding or afterwards, if you want to take it apart.


We Spray painted it Silver since that was our accent color.
We also Spray painted a Shadow box (that was 1/2 off at Michael’s) Silver.

My Shadow box will hold my 💐, Veil, Unity Cord, and DH’s Boutonniere.

The Display box will contain my 🎂Topper and other momentous.

I got this from amazon. It is sturdy and beautifully texturized. Also very easy to assemble. The color is ivory.

We're borrowing my FSIL's card box. She got married this past November and told me I better not spend money on one, lol. She told me to use hers' and after my FH and I use it, she's going to sell it on the market place on Facebook.

If you are looking for a cheaper option, or if you're looking to DIY your own, you an get a plain card box from a craft store and customize it for your wedding or look on the Facebook market place for people selling their wedding decor. If we did not have my FSIL's to use, I was looking at a few on Etsy that were relatively cheap.

We got one from Hobby Lobby for like $15 and then added a lock on it for another few bucks from parts at Home Depot.

I got mine at Hobby Lobby too for like $5 (it was natural wood) and I spray painted it rose gold

We are thinking of getting an personalize acrylic box from Etsy and then repurposing after the wedding instead of a shadow box. We’ll print a photo for the background, put my bouquet, his boutonnière, cake topper, garter, etc.

I bought my card box for less than $15 on Amazon. The box is made out of cardboard, but it looks really nice.
