Just Said Yes December 2022

diy Wedding

Keely, on November 21, 2020 at 9:23 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I can't decide whether or not to do the floral arrangements myself or to pay someone to do them. Both of the Weddings I have been in have done their own so I don't know what is easier. Any tips or pieces of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I did all of my own floral arrangements and it saved a ton of money! If you have the time, patience, and wouldn’t mind the work. I highly recommend it!

I plan on doing my own arrangements. I'm very frugal.

Okay thanks! I have an idea of what I want everything to look like, I just hope I can bring it all together.

For bouquets, centerpieces or both? I have seen so many beautiful DIY florals, so it can definitely be done! If you are crafty or know this is something you’re comfortable dedicating time to, more power to you.

I did not want to stress over flowers, and I know I would’ve looked for flaws in something I put together myself, so I went with a florist. (Though our centerpieces were just lanterns with greenery.)

Sounds like DIY would be perfect for you then!

My florist actually started out doing her own arrangements and got so many compliments that she started her business!

I know it’ll be cheaper and I can personalize. I’m just stressing over the wedding. I’m getting so overwhelmed.

I totally get it! We paid extra for some things for the sake of convenience and I tried to limit the amount of things we had to DIY for the sake of my sanity, but everyone’s threshold for that is different.

So you have to weigh the amount of money you could save but the potential extra stress you’ll gain with DIY, vs convenience and the stress of a bigger expense.
You could also do half and half — we had the florist do the bouquets and such, but we did the centerpieces.

We were quoted $5,000 for what we wanted; went to Michaels and spent $800 and DIY. That included all the glass votives, candles, vases, artificial flowers! I couldn’t justify spending that on real flowers... We did have to pay our wedding planner $250 to set them up. I would see if your wedding planner will set them up for you. We sold everything after the wedding for $50 back... didn’t need any of it lol. 🤍

The venue we have already has centerpieces that are decorated very nicely but I could always add to it (but I’m not). My stepmom & I are DIY turn bridesmaids bouquets. Doing something very simple but elegant. We will probably just end up buying the groomsmen's boutonnières that are already made from Hobby Lobby.

I am going to be doing mine myself with the help of my sister's! I have been looking at prices and it is so much more expensive to have someone else do it. I am actually going to have wooden flowers and fake flowers instead of real ones!

For my daughter's wedding we had a professional florist do the bouquets and boutonnieres only (since they are in all photographs and wanted to be sure they turned out). We did the aisle flowers, centerpieces, accent flowers ourselves using Fifty Flowers and they turned out just as beautiful (and at least $1000 less than what the florist quoted). Both Fifty Flowers and Costco have some premade arrangements to choose from as well.diy Wedding 5

I did my own flowers and I do not regret it one bit, saved a lot of money, and got beautifully unique bouquets out of it.

Anything that you can afford to have done by other people will eliminate a factor of stress. Pick and choose which DIY items that are really important to you to do yourself and leave the rest to the professionals so that your Decour and wedding doesn’t look haphazard.

I have done diy bouquets before and they didn’t look haphazard. My dad got remarried and we did all the decor.
