DIY White Hydrangea Centerpieces

May, on March 7, 2016 at 10:24 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Hello all! Three months to go and I still haven't concluded on the vase style, size, and floral arrangements I want to use to compliment the white hydrangeas. We are using 36 round tables that fit 8 people comfortably.

What is the best size vase to use? I was thinking 5x5 or 6x6, but then how many stems of hydrangeas would fit nicely to give it that oomph look that it's full?

Square or Cylinder? I was aiming towards square after reading other posts since the flowers can sit on the corners.

How many stems total should I purchase in bulk for 36 round tables, and how many stems per table? I was thinking 3, but is that too big for a 6x6 square vase?

And if I were to give it some leveling, what would you recommend for a platform? Something romantic yet chic, a stack of spray painted books with lit-up candles?

Any information, ideas, other posts, or pictures are highly appreciated!

I used hydrangeas for centerpiece and I only used one bloom per case because they were huge!

I am not at home so I can not post exact pictures but I am doing something similar. I got my vases through the dollar tree (7 1/4 high 3 1/4 diameter) and found lace and gold glitter vase wraps (think big, thick sticker). They look pretty expensive and end up costing only 2$ a piece. then I got square candle holders (3 1/2 x 3 3/8) through the dollar tree and wrapped them with gold rhinestone wrap. We plan to put 4 candles around the vase and use hydrangeas that we are ordering through Sams club. I posted a similar question to a local bridal fb page and someone who had used the Sams Club hydrangeas said I would be fine with three stems per table.

@ Ashley, Where did you order yours? I've seen some sites where they sell a one-size hydrangea bulk, but some other sites sell them small to Jumbo.

@ Danielle, I'm trying to order through sams too! Are they big?

As far as I know they are. There was a bride on a Pittsburgh bridal fb page who answered a ton of my questions about it. She said 2-3 per vase would be more than enough. I dont know if you already have your vases but they are crazy expensive anywhere outside of the dollar tree. You can always dress them up

I got mine through my florist. Keep in mind that hydrangeas are sort of "weak" flowers they can die pretty quick without water. So keep you bouquets well hydrated. I bought hydrangeas from SAMs once and they were very fresh! But I didn't use them for the wedding just the bridal shower and they lived for several days but not nearly as long as the ones my florist imported from holland

Just go to a craft store and play around with stuff. You'll find what you like.

My vase wraps look something like this except instead of burlap behind the lace its gold glitter. My candle holders look just like this.

Thanks for the ideas and photos!

I think I'll stick with square vases but what is a good size to stick to? Is 4x4 too small? Looking at my ruler and that doesn't look too ... it doesn't seem like it's big enough for a big table. Then there is 5x5 and 6x6.

If I used 3 stems per table, would there a be a difference in vase sizes?

I think it will depend on the height. Do you plan to keep them low? If so I might do the 5X5. But if they are going to be a little taller (like 6 inches or up) I think you would be fine with 4x4.

I agree. the three stem number i stated was based on my vase being 3 1/4 in diameter. The bigger the diameter the more flowers you will need.

Alrighty, 6x6 is out the door! So now it's just between the 4x4 and 5x5.

I should probably note that I am placing FIVE 2" votive candles w/candle holder around so that should help cover space to make the table more full right? The candles are also tiny! Smiley sad I guess I'm just frantic about the table fullness so it doesn't look so empty.

Below is an image of a wedding that took place in the same gym we are using for our wedding. Table size is the same, so 4x4 is okay?

I'm terrible with measurement and size. If you know the size of the tables maybe make a little circle with string on your floor and setup a little sample in the center with the 4x4 so you can visualize it.
