DIY/CRAFTERS: Mod Podge or Tacky glue for satin?

MrsBest2B, on August 11, 2015 at 8:03 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4

I want to adhere satin fabric to patent leather shoes. If it works, I'm doing this for my ceremony because after visiting my venue this weekend, I realized I will break my face if I wear the heels I was planning on. So I found comfortable but black patent leather wedges for $22 and I'm planning to DIY them, covering them with navy satin. Hoping it works. I'm wondering what glue might work best for this though? I Googled it and found some people say to use the Tacky Glue, others say it won't stick to satin and others say Mod Podge, while others say that'll bleed through the fabric. Wondering if anyone has done any DIY with satin fabric/ribbon and what worked for you.

I would recommend a spray adhesive, several different brands make one. Spray the shoes and do a light coat on the fabric, wait a couple minutes for it to get tacky, then smooth the fabric onto the shoes. The spray will help you get even coverage.

I used Tacky glue on my ringbearer pillow (added a bit of satin ribbon in my colors). You have to be really careful to not use too much because it can seep through, and do it a small bit at a time with time to dry in between.

Thanks! I just asked this on the Etsy forums and was also recommended spray adhesive. Apparently there is website all for glue! Thistothat.com Awesome! Hopefully this works, I'll post the results either way lol

Hi did this work? I'm trying to do the same thing as my colours are teal and coral and I can't find the right shoes anywhere. I have some satin left over from the bridesmaid dress and the boys' ties and have bought some patent leather flats. I've tried Mod Podge which bleeds through and looks awful and Tacky Glue which left tacky marks on the satin. Help is much appreciated, as I don't have long to go!
