DJ lighting question

Kristin, on November 29, 2017 at 11:57 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

Question about DJs..... We are getting quotes in from DJs and I'm very confused about lighting. Here is a picture of what my venue looks like. The DJs I'm talking to are insisting all this expensive lighting is necessary....like 16-20 uplights at $35 per light and $200 party lights for the dance floor and I have literally no idea if they are *really* important or if they just are trying to upsell me to get more money. Those that know more about this sort of thing.....how important is fancy lighting???

Depends on the feel you're going for, IMO. If all the lighting in the photo is normally included with your venue, I think you'll have enough mood lighting going on and you probably don't need uplighting at all. If you're going for a dance-party feeling at your reception, party lights for the dance floor definitely help to set that mood and get those vibes going, so I would recommend springing for that. But if not, then that's not necessary either.

I am going to go with no. Your venue has pretty sconces on the wall and candles do so much. I never notice the up lighting and dancing lights until I am carrying a tray and the lights are blinding me. Smiley winking You could always have your DJ put your initials on the dance floor.

The only lights included in the venue are those twinkle lights on the archways, and the overhead chandeliers that have fake candles that have light bulbs in them I *think*

We're not doing dance floor lights. Our Dj suggested it, but it was a hard no for us. A friend tried to convince me to do it, as it wasn't much more than our original proposal from our DJ, but we said no.

I'm actually thinking of asking our venue if we can put up twinkle lights along the beams of our reception room, the night before the wedding.

I don't really like uplighting period and I love the walls & lighting pictured for your venue so you probably won't NEED it. I agree w/ pp about dance floor party lights if any.

I am not a fan of uplighting, but my DJ/entertainment company called me yesterday requesting we do the same thing.

We caved to uplighting, but strictly because the venue is massive and it will be dark without it. The lighting within the barn we are having our reception in is very bright, and since it's an evening wedding in January, we wanted some subtle lighting without being over the top.

I agree it's not for everyone, but it does make a difference.

Our wedding is in July but it goes until 11pm so the last 2 hours it will be dark. I don't necessarily need or want it to feel like a club.....FH does not dance or listen to any popular or dance type music, so it was hard to even convince him to allow me to have an hour or so of pop music and dancing so I think if it looked and felt super club-y he would not enjoy it, but I do want a good ambiance

Well it looks like there is uplighting in the photo of your ur venue. So maybe that's why the DJ is suggesting it. I would talk to your ur venue about what most couples do and if they have photos of events without lighting.
