dj playlist

Question:
If you’re hiring a DJ and they ask for a playlist of songs you want to hear, how many are you giving them? What’s the amount you feel is appropriate. My fiancé and I are not on the same page about this

The DJ I am using uses an app where we can select the musics and has a count of 50 for the open dancing, 20 musics for cocktail hour, 20 musics for dinner. The musics I really want to hear I put “Must Play”, I am allowing the DJ to do his job and choose from there. I also put in the app the Genre we like.

We’re supposedly supposed to get an app as well but haven’t yet

So you should probably not worry about this yet and don’t get into a conflict with your fiancé. Wedding planning is already very overwhelming,
Do your thing and hear what your fiancé has to say, if you don’t agree it’s fine, when the app is available for y’all you can come back to the subject and figure something out.

They aren’t looking for the entire song list you want played because that defeats their purpose. They mainly want a short list of your absolute must haves for spotlight events (first dance, bouquet toss, cake cutting) and general dancing. Also a list of don’t play songs. They use that as a guideline and play music the crowd responds to while going with the flow.

I ended up reaching out via email and he answered right away so I got access to the app he was talking about. The app has a spot for up to 30 songs for cocktail hour, 30 for dinner and 30 for dancing. A section for group dances and then a do not play. So I’ll just add stuff and see what he does

Our DJ sheet had categories of different types of music and the DJ wanted us to highlight songs we'd want play for each genre of music, and he wanted us to cross off songs we didn't want play. There was also a section on the back where we could write in songs we wanted play and a Do Not Play list.

Our DJ gave us a sheet, but we know him personally, we've both seen him DJ, so other than a few "DO NOT PLAY" songs and our specific songs for first dance/parent dances, we're giving him a lot of freedom.
